Place your index finger on the low E-string 1st fret (and down stroke with the pick),
then your middle finger on the 2nd fret (upstroke with the pick),
your ring finger on the 3rd fret (downstroke)
and pinky on the 4th fret (upstroke)

Repeat on A-String and all other strings.

Once you have reached the high E-String reverse the exercise starting with your
pinky on the 5th fret,
then ring finger on the 4th fret,
then middle finger on the 3rd fret,
and finally index finger on the 2nd fret.

Slide index finger to 3rd fret and repeat exercise until index finger reaches the 9th Fret
(on acoustic guitars) or 12th fret (on Electric guitars)
