Audio aids

The aids involving the sense of hearing are called Audio aids. It help the individuals learn through listening. It may help in
making the impression of the lesson permanent on the pupils' mind. The examples of Audio aids are Radio, Tape-
recorder, Gramophone etc.

DEFINITION of Audio Aids

In view of –

Burton – “Audio aids are those sensory objects which initiate or stimulate and reinforce learning.”

Carter V. Good – “Audio aids are those aids which helps in completing the triangular process of learning i.e., motivation,
clarification and stimulation.”

Good’s Dictionary of Education – “Audio aids are anything by means of which learning process may be encouraged or
carried on through the sense of hearing.”

Kinder, S. James – “Audio aids are any device which can be used to make the learning experience more concrete, more
realistic more dynamic.”

RADIO

Radio broadcasts started in India in 1927 with two privately owned transmitters at Bombay and Calcutta. The
government of India took them over in 1930 and started operating them under the name of Indian Broadcasting Service.
In 1936, the name of service was changed to All India Radio (AIR). Since 1957, it has been known as Akashwani.

A radio is the transmission and reception of signals by means of electromagnetic waves. Radio listening
contributes immensely to the students fund of information. It is primarily concerned with the spoken word and resource
of inspiration to speakers.

The tape recorder is a very useful teaching device which is gaining favour with teachers and educationists.Tape
recorders use a thin piece of metal ,plastic ,or paper tape.Tape recordings are less at fault than wire recordings
and have a high longevity.

The gramophone as an aid is useful. It is possible to bring music, addresses, textual materials and particularized

pronunciation, good speech and correct language. Every school should have a set of linguaphone records to
teach language correctly.
