Association of Consulting Engineers Tanzania (ACET)

Short Course on Pre- Stressed Concrete Transmission Pole Structure

(Analysis Design and Installation)

DETAILED COURSE DESCRIPTION

1. Course Overview and Targeted Participants

Association of Consulting Engineers Tanzania (ACET) have prepared a four (4) day short
course namely “Pre- Stressed Concrete Transmission Pole Structure - Analysis &
Design & Installation”. Intended Participants are all Engineers from public and private
sectors who deal with design and installation of electric power transmission towers and
poles in Tanzania. The training will be conducted on 5-8 February, 2019 at Palace Hotel
in Arusha City, Tanzania.

This training is intended to update and improve the competence of participant as required
by industry on basic understanding of the analysis, design and installation of reinforced
and pre-stressed concrete electric power transmission poles as appropriate technology
for our country.

Participant will also have an opportunity of revising on key differences between reinforced
concrete and pre-stressed concrete with emphasis on their behavior under loads along
with potential failure mechanisms, citing both reinforced and pre-stressed concrete
electric power transmission poles.

To enhance this professional training, participant will be given hardcopies of all lecture
handouts and after each lecture a soft copy of handout will also be given to the participant.
It is therefore important for each participant to come with his/her own laptop.

At the end of the training each participant will be awarded with a respective certificate of
attendance.

2. Objectives of the Training

The objectives of this training are to:

 Recap the participant with the overview of reinforced and pre-stressed concrete and
its application as an appropriate and effective technology for electric power
transmission in Tanzania.
 Illustrate to the participant the application of fundamental principles of structural
analysis and design of reinforced and pre-stressed concrete electric power
transmission poles.

 Demonstrate to the participant on step by step analysis and design process for
various components of reinforced concrete electric power transmission poles with
application of prevailing codes of practice.
 Demonstrate to the participant on step by step analysis and design process for
various components of pre-stressed concrete electric power transmission poles with
application of prevailing codes of practice.
 Illustrate to the participant on installation guidelines and procedures for the pre-cast
concrete poles.
