LA/SC - PT PANEL
1. Standards

IEC: 71 : Co-ordination of Insulation

IEC: 99 : Lightning Arrestors
IEC: 186 : Potential Transformers
IEC: 529 : Classification of Degree of Protection

2. Design Requirements

- The cubicle shall house Potential transformers required for metering, protection,
synchronisation and excitation system sensing.

- Surge capacitors and Lighting arrestors required for surge protection of the generator
shall be housed in this cubicle.

- The surge capacitors shall conform to the latest IS: 2834 and shall be rated 0.25 µF.
The capacitors shall be suitable for indoor mounting and shall be provided with built
in discharge resistor.

- The lightning arrestors shall be heavy duty indoor station class gapless metal oxide
type suitable for repeated operation to limit voltage surges on alternating current
power circuits and to interrupt power follow current. The arrestors shall conform to
IEC 99-4. The nominal discharge current of lightning arrestor shall not be less than
10kA.

- The Tenderer to submit design back-up details for selection of PT, LA and SC
ratings.

3. Construction Features

- The cubicle shall be simplex type.

- The cubicle shall be sheet steel enclosed dust and vermin proof type. The cubicle
shall be floor mounting, free standing and suitable for cable connection. The
enclosure shall be of cold sheet of 2 mm thick for front and back and 1.6 mm thick
for rest. The cubicle shall be provided with the undrilled, removable gland plate of
min thickness of 3mm.

- Type of enclosure shall be IP 54.

- The doors and openings shall be provided with foam gaskets.

- Cubicles shall be suitable for top cable entry.

- All mounted equipment inside the cubicle shall have identification tags of self
sticking PVC tapes, in addition identification number shall be painted on cubicle wall
to give permanent identification mark.

- All wiring shall be done by PVC insulated 650 V grade 2.5 mm stranded copper
cable. Each wire shall be identified at both ends by means of PVC ferrules.

- Minimum 20% spare terminals shall be provided more than one wire shall not be
connected in any terminal. All terminals shall be stud type.

- All busbars shall be sleeved type with color coding at each end.

- The PTs shall be of fully draw out type and both the primary and secondary shall get
isolated and earthed through scrapping earth.

- PT’s primary shall be with uniform insulation.

- The PTs shall be protected with HRC fuses on primary. MCBs shall be made
available on secondary side for circuit protection.

4. Painting

- After preparation of the under surfaces, with two coats of primer suitable for epoxy
paint the cubicle shall be spray painted with two coats of final epoxy paint. Color
shade RAL 7032, with glossy finish. All unpainted steel parts shall be cadmium
plated or suitably treated to prevent rust corrosion.

5. Earthing

- A continuous earth bus running along the full length of cubicle shall be provided.
Suitable arrangements shall be provided at each end for connection to main earthing
grid.

6. Door limiting switch and Space Heater

- Cubical shall be provided with illumination lamps for each section working on Aux.
AC supply as specified in data sheet. It shall be operated automatically by door limit
switch.

- A single phase, 15 Amps 3 pin socket shall be provided in the panel corridor or
interior of each cubical with on-off switch. This socket shall be metal clad type with
a spring-loaded flap.

- Anti-condensation space heater shall be provided along with thermostat to keep the

cubicle temperature above ambient.

7. Test

- The PTs shall be fully tested for 35 kV as per IS: 3156. Lightning arrestors and surge
capacitors to be tested as per relevant IS standards.

Following tests shall be carried out:

¾ Checking of correctness of wiring of circuit
¾ High voltage test.
¾ I.R value test.
¾ Routine tests.

8. Potential Transformers

Potential transformers, for protection, metering, Tariff metering, load sharing modules &
controls shall be provided, for generator in LASCPT cubicle.

8.1. Standards

IS: 3156 & IEC: 186 : Potential Transformers

- The potential transformers will be single phase, epoxy cast, dry type units. Potential
transformer will be protected on primary by HRC fuses & Fault current limiting
resistors if required and secondary side by MCBs. The accuracy class for Metering is
0.5 and protection is 3P.Over voltage factor PTs shall be 1.2 Continuous and 1.9 for 8
hours.

¾ Certificates of tests giving the results of tests conducted as per the appropriate
Standards on similar switchboard and interior components. Shipping dimensions
of the board and its weight – gross & net (without packing).
