Character Emotion

Emotional Expression and Body Language

Just having a character with emotions is not enough

Remember the example of the black circle who doesn’t like to be called a dot.

Just having a mad black circle is not interesting, and won’t make an interesting animation.

What made the circle interesting was that IT TOOK ACTION on those emotions

EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION: You have an emotion and you express it through an action

You can do Emotional Expression through body language, or you can have the character do something
about what he or she is feeling. Doing something to someone or an object.

Character Relationships
You can have 3 types of character relationships.
 Character with Character
 Character with Object
 Character with Audience

To start a relationship, characters have to need something from the other character, from the object, or
from the audience.

To start a relationship between two characters, just answer: What do they need from the other
character?

To be loved? To be listened? To be respected? To be feared?
