UNIT 7 MATTER, MATERIALS AND MIXTURES SCIENCE

Contenido mínimo para estudiar:

 MATTER is anything we can see, touch, taste or smell (la material es todo lo que podemos
ver, tocar, saborear u oler). Everything is made up of matter (todo está hecho de materia).

MATTER CHANGES (Cambios en la materia)

 MIXTURES (Mezclas)
A mixture is something that contains two or more different materials (una mezcla es
algo que contiene dos o más materials diferentes).
In some mixtures we can see the different materials; in other it is impossible to see
the different materials (en algunas mezclas podemos ver los distintos materials, en otras es imposible).

 SEPARATING MATERIALS IN A MIXTURE (Separación de materiales una mezcla)

1. Sieving (tamización): Good for separating solids of different sizes (bueno para separar
sólidos de diferentes tamaños).
2. Filtering (filtración): Good for separating solids and liquids (bueno para separar sólidos y
líquidos).
3. Evaporating (evaporación): Good for separating a solid that is dissolved in a liquid
(bueno para separar un sólido que está disuelto en un líquido).

 2 TYPES OF MATERIALS (Dos tipos de materiales)

1. NATURAL MATERIALES (naturales): they come from living things or from the
ground (vienen de los seres vivos o de la tierra).
2. MANUFACTURED MATERIALS (elaborados): they are materials that people make
(son materiales que la gente hace).
NATURAL MATERIALS MANUFACTURED MATERIALS
Cotton, wood, feathers, wool, leather, slate,
Paper, fabric, plastic, glass, metal or
iron or crude oil (Algodón, madera, plumas, lana,
petrol (Papel, tela, plástico, vidrio, metal o gasolina).
