1. Device description
EPS64 is designed for failure monitoring in high power distribution board. On its inputs it supervises failure status of
selected parts, shows the information on the display and acts on failure events by mechanical outputs which
disconnect controlled parts.

2. Output relays
Device has 8 output relays which are used for different and specified purposes:
• Relay 1 – acts at HARD failure and disconnects high voltage circuits
• Relay 2 – acts at SOFT failure and HARD failure and turns the failure alarm on. When contact changes from on to
off or at any failure event the relay 2 is disconnected for defined time. This time is indicated at bottom righ display
corner. After this time elapses, relay 2 turns back to initial position in case that there is no another failure event.
• Relay 3 – 1st channel, disconnects the vacuum contactor
• Relay 4 – 2nd channel, disconnects the vacuum contactor
• Relay 5 – 3rd channel, disconnects the vacuum contactor
• Relay 6 – 4th channel, disconnects the vacuum contactor
• Relay 7 – 5th channel, disconnects the vacuum contactor
• Relay 8 – 6th channel, disconnects the vacuum contactor

3. Failure status types

There are up to 10 failure statuses which can be defined in EPS64. To each one the 1 till 6 inputs can be related. In
total up to 60 independent inputs can be controlled. EPS64 knows four types of failure.
• CONTACT
Monitors contact status only (fuse off etc).
• HARD ERROR
Defines critical failure in the system or at activation of safety contacts at fundamental parts of the system (cpacitor
pressure sensor, opened door etc). While the error is identified the text “ERR” blinks at particular input position and
Relay 1 and particular output relay turns on. Hard error has to be canceled by service stuff only. Even after service
stuff repairs reasons which caused hard error the display still signalizes “ERR” status until the test of system is made.
If the reasons for hard error were repaired the “ERR” status is replaced by status “OK”.
• SOFT ERROR
This is the error which can disappear during the time by itself (reactor over-temperature, cabinet temperature etc).
When error is identified the text “ERR” starts blink at particular input position. If error disappears, ERR text stops blink
and lights on the display permanently until it is canceled by pressing the button TEST. During soft error presence the
relay 2 turns on and particular output relay acts too.
• SOFT / HARD ERROR
The same as SOFT failure but with change to HARD failure after some time of failure presence. It is good to use for
events which longer presence can caused device damage. Such type of failure is canceled after complete system
test.

5. Device operation
Device is operated cursor buttons ▲ and ▼ which is normally used for moving in the menu and changing the
parameter settings. Parameters setting is activated by pressing the button SET as well as this buttons is used for
confirmation of newly set values.
Button TEST is used in monitoring mode for user confirmation about error noticing. In the configuration mode it
represents button cancel and closes menu.
During standard operation the display back-light turns off after 1 minute without any action on any button. When there
is any action the display back-light turns on again.
Display back-light is used also for EPS64 warming. When the ambient temperature falls under 0°C, back-light turns
on automatically.

6. Monitoring and testing mode

EPS64 monitoring mode has three screens which show the system status. For switching between these screens use
the cursor buttons ▲ and ▼.
While any failure is present the device shows the screen which identify the failure and display backlight is blinking
until the any button is pressed.

6.1. Monitoring screen 1

At the first monitoring screen information about electrical parameters in particular phases are shown. If the level
monitoring is enabled, then in case that measured parameter is in the limit, symbol OK is shown next to displayed
value. If the measured parameter comes over the limit, the symbol OK is replaced by blinking ERR and icon of
appropriate output will show its state.

6.2. Monitoring screen 2

Second monitoring screen shows the list of first 5 failure types assign for all 6 outputs. In the last column is show the
status of Relay 2 for each output. After the relay 2 is disconnected by failure event, beneath the relay symbol the bar
time indicator will show remaining time to repeated relay 2 connection.

6.3. Monitoring screen 3

Thirds monitoring screen shows the next 5 failure types assign for all 6 outputs. The behavior of that screen is exactly
the same as for screen 2.

7. Configuration mode
Configuration mode is used for EPS64 parameters setting. Keep the button SET for at least 5 seconds to enter the
configuration mode. After that the request for password entering appears on the display. If there was not entered
correct password the configuration parameters can be seen but without any possible change of them.
