TEACHING UNIT FOR 2nd YEAR OF CSE

o TITLE. A Different School.

o CENTRE OF INTEREST. School lifestyles.

o DURATION. 7 sessions of 60 minutes.

o TEACHING OBJECTIVES:

 To learn the present simple form and use of the verbs to be and to have
got.
 To recognize vocabulary related to the school.
 To participate in habitual communicative situations such as exchanging
personal details.
 To learn about the correct position of adjectives in English.
 To revise the pronunciation of the English alphabet.
 To participate actively in pair and group activities.

o BASIC COMPETENCES.

 Competence in communication with language, with special focus on


describing school facilities, equipment and peculiarities.
 Cultural and artistic competence, in appreciating cultural differences
about life in British and American Schools and participating in
creative works in the elaboration of a poster reflecting opinions about
an ideal school.
 Social and civic competence, in expressing personal opinions about an
ideal school and understanding codes of conduct in a school
environment.

o CONTENTS.

 Block 1. Listening, speaking and striking up a conversation.

 Using English in language interaction in everyday conversations.


 Asking for and answering questions about personal details and
about the equipment and facilities of the school.
 Listening to and understanding simple messages from audiovisual
media spoken slowly and clearly.
 Respecting norms of conversations when interacting with the
teacher and other students.

 Block 2. Reading and writing.

 Reading and making answers to questions about a text.


 Reading on facts about different types of schools.
 Writing short descriptions about schools.
 Practising word order in short written descriptive texts.
 Block 3. Knowledge of the language.

 Linguistic knowledge

 Using simple structures and functions to give personal details


and describe characteristics of schools.
 Using vocabulary related to schools and school life.
 Distinguishing the pronunciation of the English alphabet.

 Learning to learn.

 Reflecting about learning by creating a classroom dictionary


containing the new vocabulary and the new structures and
functions.
 Finding different dictionary entries by recognizing syntactic
categories.

 Block 4. Socio-cultural aspects and intercultural awareness.

 To learn about customs and social norms in English speaking


countries
 To value personal enrichment acquired communicating with
people from other countries
 To identify cultural signs in lifestyles in schools from Andalusia
and from other English speaking countries.

 Education for equality between sexes through the selection of materials


which illustrate equal opportunities and avoid sexist attitudes.
 Education for peace, in promoting interest and respect for other

o EVALUATION CRITERIA:

 Using present simple of verbs to be and have got correctly in


affirmative, negative and interrogative sentences.
 Describing schools providing details about their facilities, equipment
and characteristics.
 Reproducing dialogues to ask for and give personal details by imitating
models from written or spoken texts without major mistakes.
 Writing short descriptive texts applying the rules of adjectives position
in the sentence with precision.
 Creating a poster of an ideal school by means of finding printed
images, painting and sticking.
