ENGLISH PHRASEOLOGY
FOR AERODROME CONTROL

GENERALITIES
The communications procedures will be according to Vol. II of Annex 10 – Aeronautical
Telecommunications, pilots, ATC personnel and the other ground personnel should know
the radiotelephonique procedures written in it.

When circumstances are different pilots, ATS personnel and ground personnel, should use
the standarized phraseology. This phraseology should be clear and understable, so any
confusion should be avoid.

All the communications will use the identification call (aircraft, ground vehicle, ATC and
others), when it will be necessary. Conditional sentences will be avoid as: behind landing
aircraft or taking off aircraft, specially for manouvres affecting activity in the runway,
except when the specific aircraft or the vehicle is in sight of the specific controller and
pilot. The conditional clearance should always be transmitted following order should be
used:

1. Identification
2. Condition
3. The clearance
4. Short repetition of the condition

Example:

“Avianca 006, behind of the B-767 in short final, line up”

Note. It makes the aircraft receiving the conditional clearance (Avianca 006 identifies the
aircraft that it is refered in the conditional clearance (B-767 in short final)

Intructions like runway in use, QNH, SSR code, levels, heading and speed, and when it
would be required by the ATS authority, transition levels should be always reab back by the
pilot, for Example:

Ctl: Lan-573 Squawk 2401

Pil: Squawk 2401, Lan-573

given, in that moment.

WHEN THE RIGHT TRAFFIC CIRCUIT IS USED:
