I am Madhur Mehta, a student pursuing Physics under BS-MS programme at the

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal, India.

I am now a proud member of this great community of talented young brains from all
over the world, the DAAD community.
The DAAD programme was not just a simple internship programme rather it was an
opportunity. An
opportunity to explore the plethora of possibilities the country of Germany has to offer.
It was more like a glimpse of Germany, the German culture and the German way of
working.
The people all around were very helping and the work atmosphere was very well
organised. I worked in the lab of Prof. Sebastian Boser with his team of dedicated
researchers who were very kind and caring. We worked in the field of Astroparticle
Physics. His group worked on Light sensors and WOM tubes. Light sensors play an
important role in Astroparticle physics experiments, in particular for neutrino
telescopes. With the Wavelength-Shifting Optical Module (WOM), Mainz University
is trying to develop a novel sensor technology that not only promises substantially
improved sensitivity but will yield significantly reduced noise levels. The task of the
internship project was to establish the timing performance of the newly made WOM
tubes.
This has been a remarkable journey. This internship programme has turned out to be
a treasure of precious memories.
