“DESIGNING, ASSESSING AND FACILITATING LEARNING FOR THE K12 CURRICULUM


STANDARDS”

Seminar Objectives:
By the end of the program, the participants will be able to:
1. Identify the general goal of the K12 Standards-based curriculum
2. Discuss the process of unpacking learning goals and learning targets from the standards and competencies
of a curriculum unit
3. Design standards-based assessments and instructional materials (Q3-Q4)
4. Explaining the characteristics of learner-centered instructions
5. Facilitate in learner-centered way students’ acquisition of unit competencies, understanding of key concepts
and transfer of learning
6. Examine classroom instruction procedures using the PEAC Evaluation Sheet for Classroom Instructions.

SESSION 1

Mr. Jessan De Castro started his lecture on the enhanced basic education act of 2013. He also discussed the 7c’s
which are, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creator, communicating/ICT literacy, cross-cultural
understanding, career and learning self-reliance, and creativity. It is for us as a teacher to reach the objectives.
He said at the middle of his teaching that, “Teachers are high adaptive.” We need to meet the standards provided
by the DepED which composed of content standards and performance standards. He also makes us understand the
key teacher’s role wherein, as a teacher, we have three major functions in our classroom. These are, to be a
facilitator, a designer, and assessor.

SESSION 1
We discussed the General Approaches for Unpacking Grade 7-10 Learning Unit Q3-Q4. In this session, we focused on
the question, “it is enough to download the curriculum guide and use its original form in the classroom?” all of us said
that it is not enough because as a teacher, we need to be flexible so we can add spices to make our lesson more
effective for them to easily absorb the teachings that you want them to learn.
