FAMILY CAREGIVER ROLE IN RELATION TO GIVE THE MOTIVATION TO

HEALING PROCESS OF STROKE PATIENTS AROUND THE REGION

HIGHLIGHTS

Background: The importance of the role of the family caregiver in the treatment of
post-stroke patients can be considered from various aspects that the family is the place
where people start interpersonal relationship with the environment. Family caregiver is
expected to perform tasks with good health. With the optimal family health task it is
expected that motivation becomes optimum recovery of stroke patients as well. So as to
enable stroke survivors to be able to enjoy life to the full meaning.

Objective: To determine the relationship the family caregiver in providing motivation

for the healing process of stroke patients in the area around Yogyakarta Kotagede.

Methods: This study is non experimental, descriptive design with correlation and cross
sectional approach. Subjects of this study is that all patients in RSKIA PKU
Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, while the patient last 3 months of July-September 2014
amounted to 47 patients. Sampling technique in this research is purposive sampling
counted 42 respondents. Analysis of data using statistical test kendall'tau.

Results: The results of this study showed no relationship in the family caregiver's role to
provide motivation for the healing process of stroke patients in the area around
Yogyakarta Kotagede. which is indicated by the value of the correlation coefficient of
0.716 with a z-count equal to 6.681. The correlation number is positive. Family
caregiver role both in providing the motivation for the healing process of stroke patients
in the area around Yogyakarta Kotagede.

Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship role of the family
caregiver in providing motivation for the healing process of stroke patients in the area
around Yogyakarta Kotagede so expect more taste, understanding the desire of stroke
patients with particular regard to comfort in a family environment, in an effort to
prevent the patient from possible unwanted or relapse and recurrence of stroke itself.
