In recent times, our young heroes have been sprouting to unbelievable

heights and attracting attention in the local and global arenas. Brimming with
enthusiasm are these young talents who have proved that Malaysia is in the
frontline in many fields.
Our young people have performed exceptionally well in sports. During the
Athens Olympics, the world watched in awe at the youngest athlete in the
Games, Bryan Nickson Lomas, aged 14, swimming across the pool. Nicol David
did Malaysia proud in her comeback performance in the Women’s World Open
for squash. Swimming across the icy English channel was never an impossible
task for Lennard Lee, a medical student at the University of Cambridge.
Lennard’s feat deserves special mention as he broke a previous record with his
time of 9 hours 45 minutes. All this he did for charity.

Dear Editor
I am writing to urge the public to save the leatherback turtles that are now
endangered.

2. Leatherback turtles are becoming extinct now because of global warming.

The temperature of the sea has been increasing, making it hard for the turtles to
survive.

3. Humans have been capturing turtle eggs. In addition human greed for
turtle meat and shells have also caused the turtle population to decrease.

4. Chemical and human wastes have been polluting the sea and this poses a
threat to the turtles.

5. Turtles often eat the bait and get caught in the hooks that are meant for
tuna and swordfish or they get entangled in the lines meant for these fishes.

I hope everyone will work together and save the turtles.

Yours faithfully,
Francis Tan

Dear Editor
Leatherback turtles are decreasing in numbers because of a variety of
factors. Global warming has brought about increased sea temperatures and this
is affecting the mortality rates of the turtle.

2. Turtles are considered a delicacy and are often hunted for their meat,
eggs and shells. It is cruel to prey on such a beautiful animal especially when it is
fast becoming an endangered species.

3. Ocean pollution and the release of harmful and toxic waste into the sea is
also driving the numbers of the turtles down. It is selfish and careless to allow our
man-made pollutants to kill these beautiful creatures.

4. The turtles are also being killed as a result of fishing practices. Large
shrimping trawls snare the turtles and they become entangled in the vast trawls
and nets. It is unfortunate that the turtles are being killed indirectly this way.

I make a plea to the public to save the turtle, as it is a spectacular creature and a
vital part of our eco-system.

Yours faithfully,
Francis Tan

SAMPLE ANSWER: SECTION C

A character whom I like in the novel Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe is

Robinson Crusoe. I like Robinson Crusoe mainly because of his strong willpower.
He did not give up even when he was faced with the most desperate situation,
being shipwrecked on a deserted island. Indeed, he survived for 28 years. He
quickly adapted to his surroundings, making use of the natural resources around
him to build shelter and obtain food. He made a safe and comfortable home,
reared goats and planted rice. He had three separate homes on the island.
