Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

If there is a student in the class that has a visual or auditory impairment, you can design this lesson
to fit their needs. A student who has a visual impairment will be able to hear the play that students are
performing and will be able to create a visual in their head based on what they hear. This student can

also participate in their group’s play by having some assist them and explain to them where to stand.
They may not need to do much moving in their play, but they do need to play a role. A student who
has an auditory impairment will be able to watch the video with captions to grasp what the video is
saying. They can also use an app called Hear You Now on their phone or ipad that will allow them to
understand what the teacher’s instructions are and help them understand what their group wants to do
for their play.

Lesson idea implementation:

The instructor will then conduct a group discussion with the class about what they think bullying is,
ways to prevent bullying, and what to do if they witness someone being bullied. Then the instructor
will show the BrainPOP video about bullying to help them get a visual understanding about the group
discussion. After the video, the instructor will then put the students in groups of 3. Their goal is to
produce a play about bullying and one person will be the bully, one person will be getting bullied, and
the other will be a witness of the bully. They will conduct a play that explains what bullying is, how
to prevent it, and what to do if you are getting bullied.
Students will then present their final product to the class, where the class will then have to discuss
who played each role, how they prevented bullying, what the person getting bullied did and whether it
was a good decision or not and whether the witness did the correct thing. To conclude the lesson, the
instructor will go over why it is important to stop bullying and ways to prevent bullying. To provide
feedback to the student’s plays, there will be a rubric in place that describes what they must cover and
the roles that must be played.

Reflective Practice:
I feel that the role play activity will help impact student learning by allowing the students to get
creative and understand that bullying can be performed in many different fashions rather than just
verbally through words. This activity will help them understand exactly what bullying is, how to
prevent bullying, and ways to help someone who is being bullied. Not only creating the play their
group is going to perform, but also seeing other groups perform will allow the students to understand
why bullying should be taken seriously, and the impact it can have on people.
