THE EFFECT OF BALANCE EXERCISE USING ANKLE AND HIP

Forewords: Seniority is a phase in life that every human being go through that is characterized
by decreasing in abilities and bodily functions both physically and psychologically.

Methods: This research is a quasi-experiment using pre and post-test with control. The samples
for each group are 12 people. Length of research is 6 times for balance exercise and 3 times for
seniors’ gymnastic exercise during the course of two weeks.

Result: The result of hypothesis test using Paired T-Test obtained that there is an effect of
balance exercise intervention towards seniors’ body stability with p value of 0,000. Furthermore,
in control group obtained p value of 0,004. Analysis obtained on pre-test using Independent T-
Test is p value of 0,036 and on post-test obtained p value of 0,068.

Conclusion: There is an effect of balance exercise towards seniors’ body stability.

Suggestions: For the next researchers it is suggested to be able to do the research with more
respondents, longer time period, and presenting more characteristics which haven’t been studied
before in correlation with seniors’ body or the risks of falling over.
