Software Installation

Introduction
The USB-Parallel Interface Adapter is a plug-and-play device that
allows Windows PCs with only USB ports to connect to LJ products
that require a parallel connection.

The following operating systems are supported:

• Windows 2000
• Windows XP
• Windows Vista

The adapter will NOT work on the following platforms:

• Windows 95
• Windows 98
• Windows ME
• Windows NT
• Linux
• Apple Macintosh

Before installing any of the drivers or software, close all LJ


applications on the intended workstation, including ClassAct,
ClassCampus and any D3000 VIP applications including the Data
Server and Toolbar.

You must have Administrator rights to install this device. If the


installation is to be on to a network drive then you may need additional
permission to install the software, in which case you should contact
your Network Administrator.

Installation

• Do not plug the adapter in yet.


• Start the workstation and wait for Windows to load fully.
• Insert the Installation CD-ROM into the workstation’s CD drive.
• The installer should launch automatically. If not, find and run
setup.exe from the CD’s root folder.
• Choose USB-Parallel Interface Adapter (USB ADAP1). You
can safely ignore security warnings from Windows about
installing the USB adapter’s device driver.
• When installation has finished, accept the request to restart
Windows.
• Now connect the USB Adapter. Windows should recognize the
hardware. If prompted, choose to install drivers automatically.

Testing the Adapter

• When you have installed the drivers, ensure the adapter is


connected then locate and run the LJPortTest program in the
Utilities\LJPortTest folder on the Installation CD. An applet
should appear:

• Check that the LPT1 and Using USB indicators are lit, and that
the Base Address for LPT1 is 0378.

Hardware Configuration

• The USB-Parallel Interface Adapter provides all the connections found on a


standard parallel port, plus some additional signals for use in future LJ products.
