Since the world is composed of many societies with different culture to live, it is normally observable

that people has a different orientation and perspective in viewing other cultures. However, conflict occurs when
something that is legally and morally permissible in one culture is somehow illegal and immoral in another
culture. This dispute will lead not only to the observation of Ethnocentrism and Xenocentrism, but also to the
failure of achieving Cultural Relativism that promotes avoiding personal biases and assumptions in studying
one culture. People in different societies may view certain beliefs and customs as a way of destroying the life,
the liberty, and the property of an individual that limits a person’s existence. The following cases show that the
diversity of people in terms of culture differentiation can promote ways of killing and limiting the right to live.
These are murder, abortion, suicide, infanticide, and euthanasia. Other cases that prove diversity of can lead to
violating the rights of a person to live a happy life includes mutilation or cutting of certain body parts, physical
and mental torture, prostitution or selling of body, slavery, polygamy or marrying more than two woman, and
sex transplant or change of gender organs.

According to the report of Down To Earth (2016), at least 117 million girls around the world are missing
due to the sex selective abortions and India was one with the highest incidents of female infanticide. Infanticide
and abortion is the result of the patriarchal nature of Indian society. Patriarchy is a social system in which males
hold primary power in the roles in the society. Primarily, the Dowry system in South Asia makes daughters an
unaffordable economic burden and less important. It also existed in China for a long time in connection to the
One Child per Family policy. Many parents believe that having a son is important aspect of providing for their
old age. Therefore, in extreme cases, babies are killed if it is not the expected sex, because of the pressure not to
have more than one child. The health consequences of this violence can be immediate, long-lasting, chronic,
and fatal. Research consistently finds that the more severe the abuse, the greater its impact on women’s physical
and mental health that negative health consequences can even persist long after the abuse has stopped. This
issue is also connected on the religious part of the social institution. Confucianism accepts male children as
more desirable since they are expected provide security and work for the performance of ancestral rites.
However, religions like Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Islam, and Christianity condemn this act. Many countries,
culture, and religions believe that human life is the most sacred gift given to us by God. Our desire to nourish
and take care of it is the moral responsibility trusted to us by God and shared by all. Since many people believe
that we are equal in God’s eyes, killing of innocent people must be stopped.

For me, this act is an act of selfishness which may result to other kinds of immorality. Our diversity
must unite us because this difference permits us to increase our knowledge and learn from each other. However,
when people forget how to respect the life of others, then this diversity becomes not only unacceptable but also
becomes harmful. This will destroy humanity and create barrier among the nations of the world.
