 He is a well-known writer, poet and a playwright that even today his plays are being done in big theaters and
all his poems or sonnets are being studied in a classroom across the world.
III. Lesson Proper
 Introducing the life of William Shakespeare:
o William Shakespeare was a renowned English poet, playwright, and actor born in 1564 in Stratford-
upon-Avon. His birthday is most commonly celebrated on 23 April , which is also believed to be the
date he died on in 1616.
o Shakespeare's work includes 38 plays, 2 narrative poems, 154 sonnets, and a variety of other poems
o John Shakespeare married Mary Arden, and together they had eight children. John and Mary lost
two daughters as infants, so William became their eldest child.
o When he was eighteen, William Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway, who was twenty-six.
o Their first daughter, Susanna, was born six months after the wedding and was later followed by
twins Hamnet and Judith. Hamnet died when he was just 11 years old.
o During his time in London, Shakespeare became a founding member of The Lord Chamberlain’s
Men, a company of actors. The company would later become The King’s Men under the patronage
of King James I (from 1603).
 Sonnets
o Four parts: Three Quatrains, each having its own rhyme scheme and a rhymed couplet
o Quatrains are four lines of poetry that rhyme
o Couplets are two-lined rhymes
o Rhyme Scheme is the pattern of end rhyme in a poem
o The typical rhyme scheme of a Shakespeare poem is abab cdcd efef gg
 Romeo and Juliet
o It’s a tragedy- but is it the most tragic love story ever told?
o Modeled after Aristotle’s Tragic Hero
o Person is of high status or importance
o Usually has a flaw
o Events that lead to a hero’s downfall are connected
o Hero realizes what has happened and quickly falls to their demise
o Hero’s fall destroys the hero and all those around them
 Activity:
o Direction:
o Each partner will read and listen through a song and answer the two questions as you read. Choose
from the five choices. YOU WILL HAVE 4 MINUTES
o Next, you will share your responses with your partner using evidence from the text to justify you
answers. You will each have 2 minutes to share...
o Finally, both of you will answer the Drawing Conclusion Questions 1-3.
o You will have 4 minutes to complete.
 The teacher will introduce the tragedy “Romeo and Juliet”.
 Activity:
o Verbal/Linguistic – This group will create a radio newscast about their reaction in the story of Romeo
and Juliet.
o Math/Logical – This group will have to solve the problem that they think that arise in the story. What
ways they could avoid such problems.
o Spatial – This group will have to draw or paint in a 1/8 illustration board the symbol they could give
for the story and explain why.
o Bodily Kinesthetic – create a skit depicting the problem that arise in the story relating to the recent
times now.
o Musical – Rhythmical – create a two stanza song for Romeo and Juliet.

 Love entails loyalty to one’s family, thus ending all feud and living life with peace and harmony.
