INGLES IV 3
Existen cuatro condicionales en inglés: cero, primero, segundo, y
tercero.
Los condicionales siempre están compuestos de dos partes: una
condición y un resultado.
La Condición, El Resultado
Si pasa esto, pasa esto.
Would… if + pasado
INGLES IV 4
I would be happy if you were here. (Estaría feliz si estuvieras
aquí.)
I would make better grades if I studied more. (Sacaría mejores
notas si estudiará más.)
If + pasado..., would...
INGLES IV 5
Se puede usar WERE o WAS con IF para formar el segundo
condicional. Es más común y formal usar WERE con IF en el segundo
Condicional.
Persona Singular
If I was/were you, I wouldn’t say that! (¡Si fuera tú no diría eso!)
If she wasn’t/weren’t sick, she would sing tonight. (Si ella no
estuviera enferma, cantaría esta noche.)
Persona Plural
If they were at home, they would answer the door. (Si estuvieron
en casa, contestarían la puerta.)
INGLES IV 6
I would have passed the test if I had studied.
(Hubiera/Hubiese/habría aprobado el examen si hubiera
estudiado.)
INGLES IV 7
Se pueden usar los verbos modales MIGHT y COULD en vez de
WOULD en el tercer condicional.
Could you have passed the test if you had studied? (¿Podrías
haber aprobado el examen si hubieras estudiado?)
If she had worn her glasses, would she have wrecked the car?
(¿Hubiera chocado el coche si hubiera llevado usado sus
lentes?).
Who owns the hotel and that came this morning son “cláusulas
relativas definidas”. Estas cláusulas nos dicen a qué persona o cosa
se refiere el hablante (Ej., who owns the hotel, nos dice cuál mujer; y
that came this morning nos dice cuál carta).
INGLES IV 8
Did you see the letter? It Did you see the letter that
came this morning came this morning?
The keys have disappeared. The keys that were on this
They were on this table table have disappeared
Podemos usar which en lugar de that (para hablar sobre cosas) en una
cláusula relativa definida.
Did you see the letter which came this morning?
The keys which were on this table have disappeared.
Algunas veces omitimos who, that o which cuando ellos son los
objetos en las cláusulas relativas definidas.
Marianne is the girl we met last night (We met her last night)
Have you seen the book I put on this table? (I put it on this table)
INGLES IV 9
Pero no podemos omitir who, that ni which cuando son los sujetos en
esas cláusulas.
Marianne is the girl who invited us to the party. (No: Marianne is
the girl invited us…)
Have you seen the book that was on this table? (No: Have you
seen the book was on this table?)
WHOSE
Empleamos whose en cláusulas relativas (en lugar de his, her, their,
etc.) para hablar sobre posesión. Observa:
I’ve got a friend. His I’ve got a friend whose
brother is an actor. brother is an actor.
They’re the people. Their They’re the people whose
house caught fire. house caught fire.
INGLES IV 10
Después de la palabra reason, podemos usar why o that en cláusulas
relativas.
Is there a reason why/that you want to leave now?
