Question 1

To be success in our business, we have to learn to value services

that allow us to be easily reachable and to reach other people quickly.

After research in order to find a good solution to manage the caps

for CityRT, I am going to discuss many technologies resides in one,
which is Integrated Digital Enhanced Network (iDEN).

iDEN is designed to give the mobile user quick access to

information without having to carry around several devices. It is
a digital wireless standard designed to work in special
frequencies originally designated for analog Specialized Mobile
Radio (SMR) networks. It provides several unique features,
including integrated push-to-talk (PTT) walkie-talkie capability.

Push-To-Talk and GPRS

Push-to-talk over cellular is a service that makes one-one and

group conversations possible over a cellular network. Today
Push-to-talk communication has proven popular ever since the
introduction of two-way radios. However, in radio calls, the
provisioning of a competitive push-to-talk service has not been
possible as the implementation of a direct voice service over
circuit-switched cellular networks (CDMA, TDMA and GSM) would
Khalid

have excessively wasted radio and network resources, thus

making the service unprofitable. The talk delivered in packets
rather than a continuous stream like a regular telephone call.
The GPRS-enabled packet IP technology will bring a new era in
direct voice communication. This technology enables an efficient
implementation of the Push-to-talk service via digital cellular
packet data access. As talk spurts can be initiated almost
instantly, radio and transmission resources are reserved only for
the duration of talk spurts instead of for the entire call session,
as in conventional telephony. Based on IP technology, the push-
to-talk over Cellular solution dramatically improves efficiency in
network resource usage in situations where a group of people
needs to communicate with each other repeatedly but
occasionally. Push-to-talk introduced in the US by Nextel through
its use of iDEN technology.

At the core of the push-to-talk is an IETP standardized protocol

known as Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) used for IP
communication and wireless networks. PTT is dependent on the
improvement of 2.5G and 3G technology.

Push-to-talk over Cellular introduces a new direct one-to-one

and one-to- many voice communication service in the cellular
network. With it, calls to both individuals and talk groups can be
started with just a push of a key. And that is going to help the
administrative staff in CityRT to interconnect easily with
the drivers. They can be typically engaged in other activity
(driving) than a telephone call, and they listen to the group
traffic during their activity. In the other hand, one of the
greatest benefits that wireless carriers enjoy from Push-To-Talk
is the network cost efficiencies that are realized in at least two
ways. Use of the underlying IP-based network with half-duplex
transmissions has the advantage of both requiring less
bandwidth (e.g. network and facility savings) as well as avoiding
interconnection to the PSTN (e.g. savings against
interconnection charges).

GPRS (General Packet Radio Services)

While GSM (2G) networks are excellent for voice calls, they are
limited when it comes to sending and receiving data. GPRS
(General Packet Radio Service) is a method of enhancing 2G
phones to enable them to send and receive data more rapidly. It
is designed to move 2G networks closer to performance of 3G

networks, which enabling applications for employees to use like,

web browsing and know what orders is there, receive emails,
etc. By increasing the speed of a 2G network, some of these
applications, like web browsing, become possible.
EDEG (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) or EGPRS
provides data transfer rates significantly faster than GPRS. When
EDGE network is nit available, GPRS will automatically be used
instead.

GPS (Global Positioning System)

One of the most powerful features of iDEN technology is based

on location.

GPS answers five questions simultaneously: "Where am I?" ,

"Where am I going?" ,"Where are you?" ,"What's the best way to
get there?”, "When will I get there?". It is the only system today
that can show your exact position on the Earth anytime, in any
weather, no matter where you are! GPS has three segments; the
space segment now consists of 28 satellites, each in its own orbit
about 11,000 nautical miles above the Earth, the user segment
consists of receivers, which you can hold in your hand or mount
in your car and the control segment consists of ground stations
(five of them, located around the world) that make sure the
satellites are working properly.

It is going to help CityRT a lot, in emergency cases; if any of the

drivers face any trouble, all the wireless carriers in the CityRT
(all the employees) will be able to point the location of him.

It enables the moderator to track vehicles for the purpose of the

moderating system, knowing the whereabouts of the vehicle. So
when they have an order, they can know which vehicle is nearest
to the customer. Also the drivers could be tracking and provided
information which is required from them, such as any
notification.

Location is a very strategic asset of wireless carriers. Leveraging

this information enables the company to create differentiation
and increase profits.

Packet Data Applications (PDA)

Finally, I recommend CityRT to replace there communication

system by dealing with a specialized wireless operator using iDEN’s
applications (which contains all the above technologies). I think that
it is the best solution in addition to the other features; No
Frequency Fees, No Equipment Depreciation, No Maintenance Cost,
Clear and Secure communication running over the Network, Much
..lower cost per user

Question 2

First, I asked myself some questions which helped me to know exactly

what I want to search about. Then I tried to answer these questions
using keywords. I found out the words related to the topic such as
.((iDEN))
When I started to type, I found many related WebPages which I had to
choose from them. I tried to specify my result by using AND, +, -
.? and
I faced a problem in some search engines which is the queries were
.limited when I need to search for keywords

I like to use Yahoo and Google for searching because they are very
useful and easy to use interface and I did not encounter any problem
.in the use of them. They give a useful result and save the time

Question 3

(a)

1- Improving my own learning and doing my jobs efficiently and fast

2- Searching the World Wide Web through search engines is very
interesting and gave me a lot of information

(b)

1- To learn the right way in using new technology and how it does
transmits to each other.

2- To communicate with others by emails and conferences in order

to share our information.

(c)
To solve my problem in getting hard of working with others, I think I
can improve team work and conferencing by trying to know each other
more, finding common areas for discussion and encourage others to
replay.
