Draconis March Campaign

In 3020, the newly-invested Duke Richard of Kentares retired his commission on Team Banzai, and
returned to Kentares-IV to pick up the ducal reign from his deceased father and assassinated (at the
funeral) older brother. He decided that his impoverished duchy needed to provide more towards its
own security than just the housing of a garrison battalion, and providing shore-leave for other units.

The Noble Order of Dragon Masters

Under his own aegis, Duke Richard founded the Noble Order of Dragon-Masters, viewed
more as a publicity-stunt than anything else. Its objective was the revitalization of Kentares-IV, and
redressing the wrongs still evident from the Kentares Massacre by House Kurita and the Draconis
Combine. This mostly drew (and draws) upon dispossessed aristocracy and younger sons of Kentares
nobility, and coordinates civic activities (barn-raisings, etc.) and revitalization of infrastructure. It also
sponsors exploration-teams searching through the extensive ruins left from the Kentares Massacre in
particular, and the Succession Wars in general. The Duke also successfully petitioned to be allowed to
start a new Academy focused on the potentialities of Air’Mechs. He hired a few of his retired
comrades-in-arms from Team Banzai to give credibility to the initial staff, awarding them each Baronial
land-grants as recruitment inducements. These “elder statesmen” hold honorary officer status in the
Order, as do the two gifted Mech-Engineer and Aero-Engineer scientists he convinced to settle on
Kentares-IV.
His two “pet” engineers designed an Air’Mech “trainer” that could be produced in limited quantities
using local facilities (mostly, hand-built), for use by the new Academy. These clumsy prototypes were
(and are) adequate little Aero-Fighters for training, with the ability to transform into Air’Mech form.
They can theoretically transform into full ‘Mech form (and do so for storage), but don’t really function
well as Ground’Mechs: they don’t have gyros to allow stable walking (or even standing). However,
since the Academy is focused on the hybrid Air’Mech features, these work for training purposes. This
overall class is dubbed the “Dragonfly ALM” (Air/Land ‘Mech), rather than LAM (Land/Air ‘Mech).

The Dragonstalkers Company

In 3023, the Noble Order of Dragon-Masters sponsored a “toy” ‘Mech Company, (the
DragonStalkers) based on these Dragonfly units. Basically a “National Guard” type unit, the
little Air’Mechs mostly provide industrial/infrastructure rebuilding support and exploration duties, to
keep the pilots busy and trained. The “pet” engineers also developed a design for a 100-Ton ALM
Aero-Fighter (the DragonLord class); a few prototypes were commissioned from Federated Suns
factories, providing an Aerospace section for the DragonStalkers. Initially, these are delivered
unarmed and woefully under-powered…

In an apparent fit of paranoia, Duke Richard doesn’t want “his” Jump-Ship to remain docked to (or
parked near) the Zenith Jump-Station. When not in active use, it “floats” about half a light-second “in”
from the Jump-Point, which it can reach in about 50 hours at need. Since planet-bound ships will take
about 250 hours to reach Zenith Station, this is more than good-enough availability. A rough “base”
has been built into a Kuiper-Belt object at approximately the right distance, which can serve as a sort-of
backup Jump-Station (but it doesn’t have a huge collector-sail, so it can’t initially recharge a Jump-Ship
in any timely fashion). It does provide a low-profile, secure micro-gravity training-site for use by the
Academy, and “shore-leave” for Jump-Ship and Drop-Ship crew. DragonLords fitted with passenger
pods in one of the hardpoints provide shuttle-service to Zenith Station and Kentares-IV.
Meanwhile, one of the Order’s exploration teams made an extraordinary discovery: a cache of a few
thousand “still-in-box” Omni-25 engines in a collapsed subterranean warehouse. The engineering duo
worked out a functional way to multiplex these into cybernetically-controlled “hive-engines”, which
could be refitted into the new DragonLords (and the Dragonflys). The downside is that one engine-
failure necessitates shutting down the rest until a Tech can retune them (at least an hour), or they “run
amok”, potentially with fusion-explosion results. These refits, however, mean that the new
DragonLords. are secretly much more-capable than anybody (even their manufacturers) suspect.
Continuing with the “more is different than bigger” theme, the engineers also develop a calliope-type
housing for Man-Pack PPC’s, to produce light-but-powerful ‘Mech Weapons, unofficially nicknamed
DragonLances.

Dragonsbane, Ltd.
DragonsBane Ltd. is a limited-liability corporation in the Federated Suns polity, founded with in
Kentares-IV, by members of the Noble Order of Dragon-Masters. The officers of the Order are
the major shareholders, but all members of the DragonStalkers automatically receive at least some
stock. It is focused on packaging and marketing the new MP-PPC “pods”, which are NOT generally
serviceable. The cybernetic control-systems that allow them to function are automatically destroyed if
the enclosure is breached, leaving a collection of stripped-down (no stock, no controls, and no power)
MP-PPC units. Several factories have been established to process MP-PPC’s (shipped in from House
Davion) into DragonLance PPC calliopes. These use carefully-tracked control-modules produced at
an undisclosed source to construct sealed-and-trapped capsules that serve as “black box” weapon
units.
This means these production calliopes are vulnerable to damage – a single hit knocks them out. But,
the “bang for the buck” is still definitely there for all but the largest calliopes, when compared to other
weapons of similar size and heat-generation. Ultimately, this is probably what leads to the invasion by
Draconis Combine forces in 3026: Kentares-IV is lightly-garrisoned, and starting to produce militarily-
significant goods (the secret control-systems and housings for the calliopes).

Draconis March Campaign

In January of 3026, there is a “Technological Advance”: a collapsed tunnel leading from the warehouse
in which the Omni-25 cache was found leads to a still-functional (but entirely submerged)
underground micro-factory, capable of producing almost any Star-League technology product of 10
Tons or less. The factory itself is about 1 kilometer below ground, underneath a large lake, in
undeveloped wilderness. It has a few supply/delivery tunnels with now-dysfunctional mag-lev railcars
connecting to hidden (most yet undiscovered) sites, hundreds of kilometers distant. The factory-
complex and the tunnels are all flooded to the depth of the lake-surface, which means that there is only
about 10 to 25 meters of air space in the tunnels that have been explored so far. One of these comes out
in the bottom of a nuclear crater (now a small lake), and is large-enough for a DragonLord to
navigate in Air’Mech mode.
In February of 3026, there is another “Technological Advance”: the micro-factory is activated, and the
existing production-line starts cranking out Omni-25 power-plant engines. Also, some of the “offices”
are pumped full of air, so that “mere mortals” can use them, gaining access to Star-League CAD/CAM
systems and robotic prototyping CNC microfab machines…which have extensive “help files” and
tutorials still available on them. The key engineering team and operations officers of the Order are
moved into apartments set up in these office-suites. This is all treated as top-secret, need-to-know.
In March of 3026, several events occur that will affect Kentares-IV. House Kurita experiences internal
dissention, focused on Proserpina, which is violently repressed – leading to a schism in the power-
structure of the Draconis Combine. Simultaneously, House Davion experiences internal dissention at
Talon, drawing military resources to the area. Meanwhile, House Steiner signs an armistice with
House Marik, enabling more pressure on the Draconis Combine (from Steiner).
In April of 3026, there is a periphery contact with elements of House Steiner. It is resolved peaceably,
but rumors persist that it was more than a “chance encounter” so far away from the Lyran
Commonwealth.
In May of 3026 there is yet another “Technological Advance”: Dragonsbane Ltd. engineers have
(using tutorials in the micro-factory) cracked the cybernetic-multiplexing load-shedding problem, so
that disabling one unit of a matrix does not destabilize the entire matrix. Components can be “ganged”
together, so that a gang may be disabled, without affecting the rest of the units. This advance may be
too late, however: the Draconis Combine has staged a major invasion of both Kentares-IV and House
Steiner’s Meacham, taking both worlds. The Duke, all current Academy members, and most officers of
the Order were all evacuated to the Factory, now known as WyrmHole. The Zenith Station was
taken by the invaders, but Duke Richard’s paranoia now seems prescient: the Aerospace component of
the Dragonstalkers Company was either ignored or not noticed by the invasion forces.
Simultaneously, Draconis Combine forces attack Steiner at Meacham. Strategically, this does not seem
sensible; but it is probably a result of the internal dissention and schism back in March.

Kurita/Davion Conflict of 3026

Kentares-IV has not actually “fallen” yet, but it is occupied by an Augmented Regiment that has taken
the Zenith Jump-Station, destroyed the official Federated-Suns garrison force, and is in firm control of
both the capital city and its spaceport. They have not captured any significant units of the ducal
government. While they have seized the “grounds” of the ALM Academy, all personnel and
equipment were previously evacuated to WyrmHole (which the invaders don’t know about). Kurita
forces are actively searching for (information on) factories that produce DragonLance modules, and
they have successfully seized a few outgoing shipments at Zenith Station. The only Dragonfly they
have seized is an early prototype “museum piece” that has not been upgraded. It is really a LAM,
rather than an ALM, based on a single DAV/50 engine, and armed with a Medium Laser in the
nose/head; its “Pegasus” recon package was removed (installed in an active-duty unit), and replaced
with a Cargo & Passenger module (1 Ton with 8 Jump-Seats). This comprises the Kurita intelligence
about Dragonflys.
The Federation Suns garrison was basically Clifton’s Battalion of the elite 7th Crucis Lancers.
They fought valiantly, and inflicted significant damage on the invasion force, but were ultimately
defeated (most destroyed, some damaged and surrendered).
The attackers are an augmented regiment, with a Monolith Jump-Ship, three Overlords, two
Unions, two Achilles, and two Intruders. The Aerospace support was 8 Shilone, reduced to 5; 8
Slayer reduced to 4; and 8 Shologar, all eliminated. The Company of Space-Marines that took
Zenith Station has been reduced to a Platoon with an extra Squad. The Heavy Mech Battalion lost 4
entire Lances, plus another Mech from among the Dragons in assaulting the ground-garrison. Both
the Medium and Light Battalions were unscathed in the initial assault, but later the entire 3 rd Company
of Panthers from the Light Battalion was taken out by a surprise attack from a Lance of 4
Dragonfly:Nymph units, so suddenly that they “just disappeared” (the carcasses were cached in a
nearby lake).

The wipeout of LBC3 was actually an over-reaction by Green DragonStalkers to an emergent threat.
3rd Company was prowling near the lake with the DragonLord access-tunnel, while the Nymph
Lance was scouting around the area. Strategically, they should probably have just hunkered down and
remained unseen; instead, they staged a strafing-run that was unexpectedly successful. They then used
their Dragonflys to haul all the debris (and one mostly-intact Panther, requiring all to cooperate) into
the lake for later salvage and reclamation.

They couldn’t really do anything about the strafing-run lines of destruction, however, so any serious
forensic search will eventually reveal the attack-site. “Cooler heads” (the Engineers) instructed the
pilots to retrieve some of the parts (especially those known to often house transponders), move them to
the other sides of the lake (underwater as deep as possible), and scatter these parts in the underbrush or
inside some of the existing ruins, many tens of kilometers away from the lake. All the salvageable parts
should be brought well below-ground (and water) and examined for remote-locators of any sort. There
is a good chance that an entire Lance of Panthers can be salvaged out of the remains, making this the
first official “upgrade” for any of the DragonStalkers.

DragonStalker Scholarships
DragonsBane Ltd. Funds two training-academies on Kentares-IV, and scholarships to two NAIS
University Programs (the Engineering program, and the custom Dragonmaster University Program).
All candidates for the DragonStalkers are put through one of these programs before being
commissioned.
The Dragonmaster Scholarship requires LRN:9, costs CP:120, and provides the following skillset:
Aero-Pilot:2 Computer:2 Technician:2
Aero-Gunner:2 Tactics:2 Leadership:2
Engineering:2 Mechanics:2 Land-Management:1
The Engineering Scholarship requires LRN:8, costs CP:100, and provides the following skillset:

ALM-Engitech:2 (Engineer & Tech both at -1)
ALM-Tactics:2 (Non-ALM Tactics at -1)
Computer:1 (Required to work on Muliplex Matrices of any kind)
Zero-G:1 (Applies both personally and to ALM operations)
The Scout Academy is a modified version of the ALM Academy, requiring LRN:7, costing CP:80, and
requiring the student to already have skills in Rogue and Streetwise or Diplomacy:
ALM-Pilot:3 (Mech & Aero Pilot both at -1)
ALM-Gunner:2 (Mech & Aero Gunner both at -1)

In general, all commissioned officers in the DragonStalkers are issued some form of Dragonfly, and
are expected to be able to pilot, fight, and maintain their ALM. Pilots, Techs, Scouts, and some support
personnel (such as Medics and Computer specialists) are all officer-material if they have Pilot, Gunner,
and Technician. Enlistment brings at least an Aristocratic grant on Kentares-IV; Commissioned officers
all all titled as Barons (mostly a land-grant to a set of ruins the Duke wants revitalized). Initialy, there
is a clear preference for University graduates – but, after some experience has been built up (and the
implications of new tactics and skills is understood), there will start to be a slight edge for Academy
graduates, instead. Dragonsbane Ltd. in general (and the DragonStalkers in particular) favors
“outside-the-box” approaches and thinkers. The Scout Academy branch of the ALM Academy was
founded and funded not just to generate scouts for the DragonStalkers: Dragonsbane Ltd. hopes
to generate a reliable source of industrial-espionage specialists, to serve as “marketing assistants” it its
sales ventures.
Commisioned-officer Pilots receive a Dragonfly:Modular with two Engine/Heat-Sink modules
installed, and a set of 6 “swapable” modules that can replace them: a PD MP-PPC/10 (counts as 2
modules); a Gyro and Omni/25 module (required to “Walk like a ‘Mech”); an MP-PPC/20 for the Right
Arm; a Tactical Communications Center; a Cargo/Passenger module; and extra Fuel Tanks. The 2 nd
‘Mech (usable by their Tech) is almost always a Dragonfly:Nymph.

This “fake” model of Dragonfly is available for sale to non-hostile buyers. It is a low-cost LAM
trainer, and an “expendable” LAM Scout-Unit (better than most, because of the Pegasus
Reconaissance Package). It will “incidentally” serve to give false impressions of the true capabilities of
Dragonfly ALM models. The Reconnaissance Package is fundamentally built into the hull and armor.
It increases repair-costs and difficulty, and/or degrades with unrepaired armor damage. This model can
be (and is) assembled from imported components in several light-industrial facilities scattered about
Kentares-IV.
The Dragonfly:Nymph has similar overall performance characteristics, and is available to House
Davion military units that have the appropriate security clearances. It is actually cheaper to produce
than the Commercial model (in the WyrmHole factory), but would be sold to Davion at a 50%
premium.
The Dragonfly :Scout might similarly be made available to select House Davion units, but under
even more-restrictive licensing agreements and secrecy-clauses. Team Banzaii could certainly order
some if they were interested, but most other mercenary groups could not.
The half-ton gyroscope available in all Dragonfly models limits the ‘Mech Walk/Run speeds to 5/8 .
For the Dragonfly:Modular, the gyroscope is part of an optional module needed for ‘Mech operations.

This is the “mil-spec” model issued to all pilot-officers in the DragonStalkers. This very versatile ALM
is functional in Space, Air, Land, and even deep under Water. It is never sold outside the Company,
and the Cybernetic Matrix-Control algorithm is encrypted with a three-factor key set (that has bypass
codes for the Tech and the factory). Unauthorized access or usage may cause the Powerplant Matrix to
run amok, catastrophically, in an EMP-laced meltdown at best (or a full fusion explosion at worst).

As delivered, the DragonLord:Base is really more of a proof-of-concept ALM, than a truly-
functional unit. It is under-powered and under-armed for a 100-Ton Aerospace Fighter, and basically a
sturdy tin can as a ‘Mech. However, it contains all necessary parts that cannot be manufactured on
Kentares-IV, including the 100-Ton ALM hull, for the real DragonLord designs.. Any destined for the
DragonStalkers will be stripped and rebuilt using WyrmHole-produced components, as specified
below.

At least one Cockpit Module is required, to control the vehicle. The Dragonfly Cockpit is basically
just a Dragonfly ALM packed into an easy-release capsule, in such a way that the Dragonfly Pilot
serves as the DragonLord Pilot. If the Dragonfly dismounts, the DragonLord is undirected (as if
the Pilot were now unconscious) until another Dragonfly mounts. In all variants, the Cockpit Module
can be ejected as a Life-Pod, destroying the Head Hardpoint.
The other two Hardpoints are located on each shoulder, and are otherwise identical to the Head
Hardpoint. They can all take any Cockpit Module, in which case they act as “fail-safes” if the main
Cockpit is disabled. The other Hardpoint Modules are typically mission-oriented. Note that the PD
(Point-Defense) mounts offer unique tactical advantages on an ALM. Not only can the protect against
incoming missile and artillery fire, they allow firing (in Fighter or Air’Mech configuration) as extreme
ranges. This is because , in “Overcharge Mode”, the long range of PPC units is more than a single map
in distance – but using Point-Defence Fire-Control for direct fire missions “always hits” when in range.
Thus, a DragonLord equiped with any PD weaponry can make “off-map” BattleTech attacks while
flying at enough altitude to “clear” intervening obstacles (effectively becoming an Air’Mech sniper
unit). The PD MP-PPC:2 Module can target 20 incoming rounds, but direct-fire only at 4 (in gangs of 5
per shot).

Invader Details
Currently, the Company’s Invader JumpShip is dedicated to Dragonsbane Ltd., for commercial
cargo haulage. It has two DragonLords providing security, each of which mounts three Dragonfly
Cockpit modules (and thus, there are a total of 6 Dragonfly:Nymph units aboard, too), as well as
having three other Modules available: a Cargo Cockpit, a PD MP-PPC:2 Module, an Extra Fuel-Tank
Module, and an MP-PPC:200 Module. This lets the DragonLords serve as multipurpose “ship’s
boats”, with a credible threat even to most Dropships, should such be necessary. The two hardpoints
have been “tweaked” to accept standardized DragonLord Hardpoint Modules, and currently mounts
a PD MP-PC:2 and an MP-PPC:200. The DragonLords can swap out & install their own HardPoints
in space, using their arms.

Scout Details
The Scout Jumpship has been customized to increase survivability. 10 Tons of each cargo hold has
been converted into a pair of 10-Ton standard DragonLord Hardpoints, leaving 50 Tons of cargo
space on each side. Also, the interior fictures have been re-oriented and bolted down, so that the entire
ship can be rotated to give centripital “gravity”, instead of performing “Gravity Maneuvers” to get
inadequate G-forces anyway. Rotation is not possible with a Dropship attached. The allocated
DragonLord comes with three Dragonfly:Scout Cockpits, a Boarding Station, a Cargo Module, a
Strafing Cockpit, and an Extra Fuel-Tank Module. These can be switched at will for thePD MP-PPC:2
Module and the MP-PPC:200 Module mounted in the Scout Hardpoints.

Union Details
The Dragonstalkers’ Union Dropship is ostensibly “new”. In fact, it was old and decrepit, and
barely usable, so is beint totally refitted at the “secret spaceport” asteroid. It still needs many months of
work befor it will be functional, but after that it will be “like new” – only better, according to the
engineers and technicians. It holds 2 DragonLords, equipped with 3 DragonFly Cockpits each (4
Modular, 2 Nymphs). Each DragonLord also has these other Modules: a Boarding Station, a
Cargo Module, a Fuel Module, a ‘Mech Cockpit, a Strafing Cockpit, a Defensive Cockpit, 2 MP-PPC:200
Modules, and 2 PD MP-PPC:2 Modules. These extra Modules take up 100 Tons of Cargo for each
DragonLord.
The ‘Mech bays have been completely reworked, to reflect the ‘Mechs available. Each bay has been
split from a 100-Ton bay into a suite with two 10-Ton bays, a 50-Ton bay, and thee 10-Ton cargo pods.
This gives the redesigned Union a total of 360-Ton cargo-space (of which 200 is used by DragonLord
Modules). Every Pilot and his/her Tech currently has a Dragonfly (in the two 10-Ton bays). The 50-
Ton bays are “wishful thinking” room for anticipated ‘Mech upgrades.
Part of the interior redesign is also reorienting the walls and decks, and reinforcing bulkheads, so that
the Union may also benefit from “Spin Gravity” when not attached to a Jumpship. The weaponry has
also been redesigned:
