- Attend “Dependency 101”

Dependency 101 is a two-hour class designed to educate bio parents about the
dependency system and help them learn to navigate it.

Youth Service Center (Juvenile Court) in Seattle, Room 203: 1st Wednesday of every Month
from 3:00pm to 5:00pm and the 3rd Thursday of every Month, from 11:30am to 1:30pm.

Dependency court hearings are open to the public.

King County Dependency Court located in the Seattle Downtown King County Superior

- Attend a meeting on House Bill 1624


Engrossed Substitute House Bill (ESHB) 1624 was passed by the House of Representatives
and the Senate on April 20, 2007. This bill requires regional and statewide quarterly
meetings between Children’s Administration (CA), foster parents, and the Foster Parent
Association of Washington State (FPAWS).

- Attend a Mockingbird Hub Meeting
The Mockingbird Family Model (MFM) is an award-winning, innovative – yet intuitively
old-fashioned – model for foster care delivery. In every MFM 'constellation,' six to ten
families live in close proximity to a licensed foster care family – a Hub Home – who
provides assistance in navigating bureaucracy, peer support, social activities and respite
care. Each Hub (located in Everett, Kirkland and South Seattle) hold monthly meetings.
Every other month they hold “Project Leadership Team” Meetings with community
stakeholders.

Foster Supports of Jefferson County

Foster Supports is a group of dedicated volunteers who want to make your placement of a
relative or foster child go just a little bit smoother. We can help with clothes, meals for
those first difficult days and can help you find durable goods like diapers, formula, strollers
and more. We help foster parents, relative caregivers, and other suitable placements.

Fostering Together Support Group for Foster Families and Relati ve Caregivers

Support group for caregivers with children in the foster system. Meetings are facilitated by
Linda Cortani of Fostering Together. Meetings are typically held on the last Friday of every
month at Unity Center of Port Townsend and are training focused.

Jumping Mouse Children's Center

Jumping Mouse provides children ages 2-12 with expressive mental health therapy. Their
model of care includes weekly one-on-one play therapy sessions between the child and a
specially trained therapist for as many weeks as necessary. While their child is in therapy,
parents and caregivers also receive ongoing support. In addition, they meet with teachers
and other important adults in the child’s life to develop a strong support system for the
child and their family. Jumping Mouse also provides parent support through their Securing
Connections parenting program.

Discovery Behavioral Health

Mental health clinic serving patients 4 years of age - adulthood in Jefferson


County. Discovery Behavioral Health has an open door policy that anyone in crisis can walk
in the clinic during open hours or call a 24 hour phone line and talk to someone on the
crisis team for FREE. Discovery Behavioral Health takes Medicaid patients and offers Youth
& Family Services, often for FREE to people caring for children on Medicaid.

Complimentary Car Seat Checks

East Jefferson Fire Rescue provides complimentary car seat checks and will train new
parents/grandparents, etc. in initial installation of car seats. The car seat checks take place
at the administrative headquarters at 24 Seton Road, at the entrance to the Glen Cove
industrial park just outside of Port Townsend. The car seat checks typically take about 30
minutes and we ask that the attendee bring their car seat manual and be prepared to be
hands-on in the training. We will also conduct group car seat installation training (no
formal certification) for organizations who transport children for others.

Reading/writi ng tutoring

One on one sessions available this summer. Any child will benefit from the extra attention
an experienced teacher who loves to read and write herself can provide!

Working Image

Established in 1999 and a 501c3, would like to provide interested teen girls with a few
outfits from our shop of donated, clean and fashionable clothes. Included in the visit will
also be an outfit for the foster or relative caregiver mom. If you are interested please
contact Ellen Peterson at 360.301.6902 to make arrangements so that Working Image can
provide you with some clothes. Working Image is located at 1925 Blaine Street in Port
Townsend. Our hours our Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, although

Port Townsend Marine Science Center

PT Marine Science Center is offering a free membership and summer camp scholarships to

YMCA/ Aft er the Bell

YMCA offers an after school program called After the Bell. The program combines physical
activity with homework support and project based learning. The YMCA is experienced with
helping foster parents navigate payment for the program with DSFS. More information can

Cedarbrook Early Learning Center

Cedarbrook is currently the only licensed childcare in Jefferson County. Cedarbrook is


skilled with working with foster parents and DSHS. They encourage foster families to reach
out early, even before a child is placed, to become familiar with the center and their
unique program. Cedarbrook serves children ages 1 month- 12 years. Foster families

Jefferson County Parks and Recreati on

Jefferson County Parks and Rec has made a pledge to support kids in foster care and
relative care to keep them active and engaged in sports. The offer both spring and fall
soccer for kids Pre K- 6th grade. They also have a free cleat exchange at the Rec Center in

Mountain View Pool

Mountain View Pool offers swim lessons by free of charge through a scholarship available
to any children who are working with DCYF. The scholarship is $50 per applicant with a
maximum reward of $200 per family, per year. The pool also offers a free day of swimming
every month, on the 2nd Sunday. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. For

Horse Skills Opportunity


Salish Spirit Equine Assisted Therapy is a non -profit program operating in Jefferson County.
Karen Reedy of this organization has offered to our children over 7 years old that are in the
dependency system an opportunity to participate. It would most likely involve:
introduction to the horse, safety around the horse, general horse knowledge, grooming,
tacking up for a ride and possibly riding. (The 8 week program that this organization runs is
full for 2018, however, they will offer this one day opportunity.)

Karen is a Registered Instructor with an international organization that certifies instructors


for therapeutic riding and equine assisted learning and is certified with the Red Cross in
Adult and Pediatric First Aid and CPR. She reports that Salish Spirit has many trained
volunteers that assist in the program. This opportunity is free of charge due to their

Melissa Pursley owner of the Wash House Salon, 921 Washington Street, Port Townsend,
has generously offered to provide hair cuts to any child who is a dependent in Jefferson
County. She will even come to your home if that is helpful. First get the OK from the
caseworker and then just call her and leave a message at 310-403-1220 and say you are
referred by Foster Supports.
