How Long Will It Take To Liquify a Marshmallow On a Gas Stove Vs. An Electric Stove?

As a baker, it is important to know which type of equipment will heat food best. In 2017,

there were 359,000 electric stoves sold. There were 2,926,000 gas stoves sold in 2017 also.

Based on this information, it is believed that people in the U.S. prefer gas stoves over electric

stoves. I thought that, If I melt marshmallows on a gas stove and an electric stove, then the

marshmallows will melt faster on a gas stove.

How Does a Gas Stove Differ From an Electric Stove In The Way That They Heat Food?

Gas stoves are easier to control when dealing with heat, gas stoves get hot faster. Electric

stoves take time to heat up. Electric stoves also take time to cool down. Although you should

take this into consideration both effective when cooking. Both get very hot(Laundry).

What Are Marshmallows Made of And How Are They Made?

Air is whipped into sugar. Heat ,water, and sugar with air is the ingredients with

marshmallows. The stability and sponginess of marshmallows comes from corn syrup. Others

meringue and gelatins are used to set the mixture to. Marshmallows are fluffy due to the air

being whipped into the marshmallow. They are soft and light because of the sugar and air(Delany).

What Are Amorphous And Crystalline Solids And Which Is a Marshmallow?

Amorphous solids do not have an internal structure. They solids are materials like rubber,

plastic, gel and many more. Amorphous solids do not shatter easily because they are not solid

items; they are flexible(Science). Crystalline solids are liquid or solid. There is no in between state.

They are made up of specific, and always moving, parts and structure. Crystalline solids are

made up of items such as plastic, glass, porcelain, styrofoam, and many more(Crystalline).

How Do You Accurately Measure The Speed at Which an Amorphous Solid Melts?

Amorphous solids are solid, liquid, and have an in between state which makes it stretchy.

Amorphous solids are bendable and durable. Elastic either springs back or bounces back. Liquid

can flow under the external force if something hits it. Atoms stay close together in amorphous

solids. They are measured by temperature change(Mahan).

What Is Surface Area And How Does It Affect The Speed at Which Something Melts?

If the surface area of an object is bigger, it melts faster. Heat helps tremendously with the

melting process. Surface area is how much surface something covers.Objects will melt faster if

they have more than two dimensions. An object with a small surface area takes a long time to

melt. Different heat temperatures make it melt at different speeds(Zimmermann)

What Steps Are Recommended When Melting Marshmallows?

In order to get good results when melting a marshmallow, it is recommended to melt

them in a pan. It is also recommended to put something in the pan before melting, such as butter.

Melt them on low to medium heat so that they melt slowly.Marshmallows are made with

different types of ingredients such as eggs whipped with sugar. They become airy, then most are

set with gelatin. To get best results warm them slowly. Sugar is very easy to burn so be careful

not to melt it to fast.Marshmallows are delicious treats, but are made very different by different

brands(Miriam).

I thought that, If I melt marshmallows on a gas stove and an electric stove, then the

marshmallows will melt faster on a gas stove a nd I found out that the marshmallows did melt

faster on a gas stove.Based on the information I gathered, I was able to conduct this experiment

successfully. My results showed that a gas stove is able to heat and melt marshmallows faster

than an electric stove. In trials 1-4, the gas stove took less time to melt then the electric stove. On

the fifth trial, the electric stove melted the marshmallows faster by 30 seconds. This is the results

that I have gained through conducting this experiment.
