TIPS FROM READING PHOTOGRAPHY ARTICLES ….

SHOOT

1. Center is not always better.


2. Step Closer
3. Switch to Perspective View when Shooting.
4. Shoot at eye level with your subject.
5. In moving shots , Don’t stop shooting after one click of the shutter, Take 2 more!
6. Changing the angle you shoot, Get up high and shoot down the subject.
7. Eye contact Play = Model looking off the camera or Looking at that is inside within the
frame
8. Place your subject right on the edge of a shot or Dead center.
9. Experiment with lighting (Side lighting, backlighting and silhouetting your subject to
hide their features.
10. Move your subject to unexpected event (ex. Bride & groom jumping to pool)
11. Photograph your subject at work or doing something they love.
12. Introduce a Prop into your shots and that can create another point of interest.
13. Get close up – Focus upon one body part of your subject. ( hands, eyes, lower body, etc)
14. Obscure (means clothing, covering, blocking, etc) parts of your subjects face or body.
Leave little imagination to your viewer for the parts covered or blocked
15. Take series of shots or continuous shooting on any active subject that is changing their
position.
16. Framing your subject… framing it with another element of the subject.

18. Play with background
19. Play with portrait or landscape frame…experiment shooting Portrait in landscape mode
20. Shoot and hold your camera in Angle.
21. Take unfocused shots… Focus on one element and blurred your subject.
22. Introduce Background Movement. By keeping Your subject still and element in the
scene around them move.
23. Experiment with subject expressions.
24. Fill the frame of the subject Face.
25. Find an interesting subject (collection of photographs of people of all ages, ethnicities
and backgrounds, interesting strangers perhaps)
26. Posing Tips
a. Angle the shoulder of your subject.
b. Standing Tall – Give an air of confident ability & self assurance
c. Casual Seated – express an easy going attitude
d. Lean with back to wall, front foot slightly against the wall, front hand in pocket.
e. Feet at different angles or heights.
f. Elbows bent – express comfort and casualness
g. Arms straight give a feeling of formality and often stiffness
h. Head tipped back slightly gen. give an attitude
i. Head tipped backhigh gen. give a feeling of fun
j. Head down toward the shoulder express power or position
k. Square shoulder express strong attitude
l. Girls stand with hips tilted forward appear more slender
m. Rotate upper body slightly at the waistline to give impression of thinner tummy area
n. Crossing one leg over in front of the other one. (narrowing the thigh region a little)
o. To emphasize the bust line of the subject, arch the shoulder back a little and chest
out.
p. Subject Looking
 Two people looking at each other – draws your viewer into ‘relationship’
 a child holding out a plate with a chocolate cake but looking at the camera
gives a feeling of invitation – the child becomes the focus
 a child holding out a plate of chocolate cake and looking at the cake can give
a sense of ‘desire’ – the cake become the focus
 Looking outside the frame can leave the viewer wondering what they’re
looking at?
27. Give your subject something to hold.
28. Distract your subject. Let them laugh, quack and talk spontaneously… Get them talking
about something they love and switch to those sweet genuine expressions that only
children can give).
