National Technology Day

CSIR- Central Scientific Instruments Organisation celebrated "National Technology Day" on May 12, 2015
by holding an Open Day from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm and organizing National Technology Day Lecture. All the
labs of CSIR-CSIO were kept open for general public in the forenoon.

Many visitors including students from various schools,

colleges, universities and general public visited the
laboratories of the institute. They interacted with the
scientists and were given exposure to the technologies
available & being pursued at CSIR-CSIO.

Later in the afternoon Shri. Surinder Singh, Outstanding

Scientist and Director Semiconductor Laboratory delivered
the National Technology Day Lecture on the topic entitled
"Overview of Space Systems and Technologies".
Students being demonstrated Laboratory
Technologies on the Occasion of National
Technology Day

He described the Space Systems and discussed the Indian Scenario in a very concise and intelligible way.
He gave an overview of Launchers and Earth Orbiting Satellites for Remote Sensing, Communication and
Navigation. He also informed the audience about Deep Space Missions, Mars mission and future trends.

He also described Near Earth Objects and in the end he took the scientists and researchers present on a
Virtual tour of SCL. He highlighted the fact that Satellites provide distance independent links and large area
coverage irrespective of terrain conditions with ease of configuring and expanding networks and give
space based reference of high accuracy with quickest reach independent of distance and coverage of land
masses that are not our own. While delivering the lecture he quoted that "The beauty of life does not depend
on how happy you are, But on how happy others can be because of you."

Major Events

Prior to this Dr. Amod Kumar, Acting Director, CSIR-CSIO welcomed the chief guest and said that National
Technology Day is celebrated in India on May 11 every year to mark the Indian technological advancement
in order to commemorate the history of India's technological capability and expertise. On this particular day,
India achieved a huge technological progression. The first, indigenous aircraft Hansa-3 was test flown from
Bangalore. India performed successful test firing of the Trishul missile on the same day and also executed
three successful nuclear tests, carried out at Pokhran, in Rajasthan.

He emphasized that Scientific Research should be for the

benefit of society. He stated that technology is neither good
or bad it is the application of technology that proves to be
beneficial or harmful. He said that at times there is a debate
whether we should develop processes or products but the
more important thing is to develop something that can either
be a product or a process which is useful to the society and
directly benefits the common man.
