ABOUT CASTI
Codes and Standards Training Institute (CASTI) began in 1982 when its founder, John E. Bringas, P.Eng., taught our first course in welding metallurgy. Since
then, CASTI has presented over 1,000 courses internationally, specializing in the area of engineering codes and standards (API, ASME, ASTM, CSA, NACE, ISO,
and others). The CASTI instructor staff includes members of many codes and standards committees as well as globally-recognized professional engineers with
international accreditations.

CASTI technical courses are developed for inspectors, engineers, technologists, designers, supervisors, maintenance, and quality assurance personnel who work
for owners-users such as petrochemical plants, refineries, gas plants, power plants, oil/gas pipelines, pulp and paper mills, municipalities, or those who work for
engineering procurement companies, inspection companies, fabricators, and regulators in governing jurisdictions.

CASTI is proud to be an IACET* Authorized Training Provider. IACET's Criteria and Guidelines for Quality Continuing Education and Training Programs is the
basis for each CASTI training course. ANSI/IACET Standard 1-2007 addresses processes for designing, developing, and delivering continuing education and
training. Through an emphasis on the educational process, this Standard ensures clear program development and valuable learning outcomes for all CASTI
courses. As an IACET Authorized Training Provider, CASTI issues globally-recognized Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for all of its courses in accordance with
ANSI/IACET Standard 1-2007.

With over 40 different courses, CASTI has become a world leader in the field of codes and standards training.

TUITION TAX CREDIT

CASTI is a certified educational institution approved by the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development Canada. Accordingly, students may claim the
fees paid to CASTI for purposes of the Tuition, Education and Textbook Tax Credits provided that all appropriate criteria for eligibility have been met. Contact the

CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS (CEU)

CASTI is an Authorized Provider for the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 8405
Greensboro Drive, Suite 800, McLean, VA 22102. In obtaining this approval, CASTI has demonstrated that it complies with the
ANSI/IACET Standards, which are widely recognized as standards of good practice internationally. As a result of their
Authorized Provider membership status, CASTI is authorized to offer IACET CEUs for its programs that qualify under the
ANSI/IACET Standards. 1 CEU is equal to 10 contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience
under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction. Only IACET Authorized Providers, who undergo a
strict evaluation by continuing education peers, can award the IACET CEU. For APEGGA members, 1 CEU is equal to 10
professional development hours.

member of ASTM A01 (Steels), A05 (Coated Steels), B02 (Nonferrous Alloys), NACE STG 32 (Oil and Gas Production-
Metallurgy) and STG 36 (Process Industry-Materials), SAE Division 1 (Carbon and Alloy Steels), and Canadian
Representative on ISO TC 17-SC 4 (Steels). He is the author of the ASTM Handbook of Comparative World Steel Standards
and the CASTI Metals Data Books. Mr. Bringas has engineering work experience in the steel making, foundry, consulting,
refinery, pipeline and petrochemical industries and is the founder of Codes and Standards Training Institute and CASTI
Publishing Inc.

Roy B. Baguley, P. Eng. graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering in
1977 and a Master of Engineering in Metallurgical Engineering (Welding) in 1983. He is a registered Professional Engineer
in the Province of Alberta, Canada, and has 30 years of domestic and international experience related to metallurgy,
corrosion, welding, and nondestructive examination.

Roy worked as an equipment operator at a major Canadian pipe mill, and as a metallurgical and NDE technician with a
leading metallurgical engineering consulting company. He obtained CGSB Level II NDE certification in the radiographic,
ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and liquid penetrant test methods.

After graduating in 1977, Roy entered professional life as a metallurgical engineer, performing failure investigations,
materials testing, materials selection, NDE technique development, and welding qualifications. In 1981 Roy joined ARAMCO
and worked with the Projects Inspection Division on new construction in Saudi Arabia. In 1984 he accepted a contract with
the South African Institute of Welding, returning to Canada one year later to work on a variety of domestic and international
oil and gas projects. In 1987, Roy formed Metal Engineers International Inc. (MEI) Through MEI, he continues to offer
metallurgical, welding, corrosion, and nondestructive testing expertise, mainly to the oil and gas industry.

Dr. Bruce Ball, P.Eng. is a professional engineer with over 30 years consulting experience in failure analysis and inspection
of plant facilities and mechanical equipment. He has a Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering, was a CSA W178.2 certified
welding inspector and is an API 510 pressure vessel inspector. He has been awarded a fellowship by the Canadian Society
for Nondestructive Testing and is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the
University of Alberta. He was vice chairman of the Canadian Standards Association Committee on Weld Inspector and Weld
Inspection Organization Certification.
Dr. Barry Patchett, P.Eng. has metallurgical and welding engineering degrees from the University of Toronto, Cranfield
University in England and the University of Birmingham in England. He is an elected Fellow of the American Welding
Society (FAWS), the American Society for Materials (FASM) and the Welding Institute in England (FWeldI). He has won
several international awards, including the Charles H. Jennings Memorial Award and A.F. Davis Silver Medal from the
American Welding Society and the Michael N. Vuchnich Award from the Welding Institute of Canada. His professional
qualifications include P.Eng. registration in British Columbia and Alberta as well as designation as an International Welding
Engineer (IWE).

Dr. Patchett has over 40 years of experience in the field of welding engineering and was Professor of Welding Engineering
at the University of Alberta for 25 years prior to retirement in 2004. He also was a welding engineer at the Chalk River
Nuclear Laboratory in Ontario, a Senior Research Officer at Cranfield and the Chief Metallurgist at the APV Company in
England and recently has worked for Syncrude Research Department in Edmonton, Alberta. He now has his own consulting
company, Maglyn Engineering in Chemainus, B.C.

Glynn Woods is a Senior Piping Engineer with experience in piping design, stress, supports, and failure analysis, as well as
piping component design, analysis and testing. For more than 30 years, he has been providing this expertise for both new
and operating petrochemical and power plants using computer evaluations and field experience in arriving at safe,
economical piping designs and solutions to piping problems. Mr. Woods is a member of the ASME B31.3 Process Piping
Committee, the Process Piping Design Course Director for ASME Continuing Education Institute, and a faculty member for
the University of Houston-Downtown continuing education program.

Alwyn Kaye, M.Eng., P.Eng., graduated from the University of Alberta in 1989 with a Masters Degree in Metallurgical
Engineering (Welding) and from the University of Canterbury in 1980 with a Mechanical/Materials Engineering degree. He
has over 27 years of experience in fabrication, construction, design, management, inspection and research. He has a strong
technical background, specializing in technical project management by hands on outcome success in difficult and unusual
plant problems. He has engineered original innovations, repairs, patents and practical solutions to cost saving designs and
field problems in the pressure equipment, process piping, storage tanks, and pipeline industries.

Mr. Kaye's field experience includes plant shutdowns, welding, equipment remediation and certification as a National Board
Boiler Inspector SCO Cert.#2567, API 510, 570, and 653 certified inspector, AWS Welding Inspector, ASNDT/CGSB Level 1
