Technology Used: music poly spots
Sequence: Day 1 scooters

Lesson Intro (What will you say to get the students’ attention, communicate the lesson objectives, and motivate students
to achieve them?):
Today we are continuing to play games/activities that are related to your heart because February is the month of
Valentine’s day. By the end of class, you will be familiar with activities that will improve your heart health and also stuff
about the function of your heart ad what it is doing when it is beating fast.

Learning Objectives Assessment

Each objective should include: a) Performance (the For each objective include your procedure for
knowledge or ability the learner will gain as a result of this determining whether objectives have been met:
lesson), b) Conditions (under which the learner will
perform, and c) Criterion (the level of performance
considered acceptable):
1. correctly perform activities that boost cardiovascular 1. informal observation
endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility
2. know what the job of the heart is; ask what their heart 2. ask questions at the end of the activity to check
is doing after exercising a lot (beating hard to pump students knowledge and understanding
the blood throughout their body)
Safety considerations and/or modifications for special needs students:
-students should be in their own personal space when doing exercises at each corner
-students should be sitting on the scooter when traveling to the middle. They should look up and be sure to not run into

anyone else for the safety of themselves and others
-no running starts on scooters. students must start by either sitting or laying on their stomachs. then they can start moving

to the middle
-if the students are riding the student backwards, they must look over their shoulder so they can make sure they won’t run
into another classmate

-wall sit an aerobic exercise while
they wait.

boundaries away equipment that is in
their corner and then line
up quietly
Closure (What will you say and do to help students recall the lesson objectives and recognize what they’ve learned? How
will you meet one or more of the following goals: review, accountability, cool-down, recognition, interpersonal
communication, future plans?):
-raise your hand and tell me what platelets do
-raise your hand and tell me what color blood cells that I mentioned and we talked about
-I will read and have the students guess the number on one of the heart fact sheets (if time)

Reflective Comments (to be completed after the lesson):

instead of students doing exercises the whole time while they are waiting to go on the scooter, have them be with
a partner and one partner will do an exercise then the other will.
switch the exercises when a new round starts, not during a round because the students will not be able to hear
what the teacher says because the music and the students are going to be loud during game play

Description of Activities

Valentines for the Heart

Before class write on the inside of the cards fitness activities in the categories of cardiovascular endurance, muscular
strength, and flexibility.
5 push ups
10 jumping jacks
Stretch in straddle position (5 seconds each leg)
10 second plank (on elbows or hands)
Stretch by standing and touching your toes (10 seconds)
5 squats
10 lunges (5 each leg)
As the students enter the gym and sit by the table, tell them you have special Valentines for them from you. The valentines
will be set in each corner of the gym. Students read the card, perform the fitness activity safely in the activity area, and
then they will move to the next corner and repeat until time is up and the music stops. Continue as long as you like.

Have a Heart
-Students should sit with their groups by their hula-hoop.
-They will take turns getting on the scooter and traveling to the center hoop, where they will get one blood cell

(styrofoam) or platelet (polyspot) and return to their hoop, placing the item they got into the hoop as they give their

teammate the scooter
**- explain what platelets and blood cells are
-platelets= tiny blood cells that help your body form clots to stop bleeding
-blood cells= blood contains many types of cells- 2 are red blood cells & white blood cells- they circulate through
the arteries and veins
-The students who are at the hula-hoop will keep their hearts pumping by engaging in an aerobic activity.
-Examples of activities include
wall sit, hopping on one foot, jumping jacks, line jumps, lunges
-When all the blood cells and platelets are gone from the heart, the round is over.
-Teams can count how many styrofoam and platelets they have in their hoop.
-Return the styrofoam and poly spots to the center hoop and continue to play as many rounds as time allows.
