Benefits of Globalization

Globalization is the development of economic growth, education, and trade. From

clothing to food, globalization introduced many products. This is the reason why we introduced

the idea of free trade to grow the world economy. It also make travel, imports, and exports faster

and cheaper than before. It also equalizes world education by providing basic education in under

developed nations which could lead to the end of poverty. Therefore, globalization is benefiting

the world economically, by creating new jobs, and educational opportunities.

Trans-nationalism-” multiple ties and interactions linking people and institutions across

the borders of nation states,” - introduced people to many products and goods from the

interaction of other cultures by migrating to different places. According to chairman of

UNESCO, United Nations educational scientific and cultural organization, “the increase in

mobility and the development of communication have contributed to such relation, and has

created a transnational space of economic cultural and political participation” (Trans-

nationalism 2). This has led to more supply and demand of foreign goods and increasing of trade.

This progress has also led to researching the growth of foreign crops in the countries that are

unable to.

Most of the foods that we eat are founded not from where we originally thought to be.

According to Jeremy Cherfas, “two-third of the food that we eat are from somewhere else. It

made up 69 percent of national diets. They are often came from countries like Argentina, China,

and other countries that have great biodiversity but even those countries have one fifth of diets

are foreign foods.” (A Map of Where Your Food Originated May Surprised You 1). This means

that globalization had been going on for along time, and it had been benefiting us by introducing

new kinds of foods in our diets. This gives underdeveloped countries development by growing

their economy. Thai is the results of free trades; by introducing the idea of free trades to the

world, it benefits the third world countries by growing their economies.

Although many argue that the rich benefit from globalization more than the poor because

companies are taking advantage in foreign countries to outmaneuver their competitions, which is

not true. However, the poor are also gaining from results of globalization by getting jobs.

According to John Green, “poverty had declined from 1.9 billions to 836 millions as a result of

globalization,” (Globalization and Trade and Poverty: Crash Course Economic). This is the

result of companies moving to other countries in order to beat their competitions; as a result, it

created more jobs for countries that are in poverty which could eventually end poverty.

Not only it create jobs in underdeveloped countries, it also create jobs for people in

developed countries like U.S., and Britain. According to source, “FTA carries out boost sales,

exports, and employment opportunities for American workers. There is also Trade adjustment

Assistance programs which will help displaced workers to find new jobs,” (Free Trade Boosts

US Exports and Creates American Jobs 1). These programs lowers people chance of

unemployment and poverty since it will help people find right place of work which their skills
Kaung 3

sets are based off. Therefore, Globalization benefits the world by creating programs to end

unemployment.

Due to globalization, traditional values and beliefs are getting lost, but company like

Center for traditional Textile of Cusco are being created to ensure the protection of the culture,

tradition, values, and beliefs. When companies like these are being created, new type of jobs are

also being created. According to the Aspeni Institute Alliance for Artisan Entererise

organization, “Nilda both achieved traditional weaving techniques and provides stable

employment for women and families.”(Cultural Sustainability in the Age of Globalization). This

means that those new companies that are being created are both creating jobs and saving

traditional arts. This shows that new jobs are being created due to globalization.

Globalization doesn’t only create jobs, it also gives the the world access to equal basic

education. Globalization has made very significant gains in basic education: according to David

M. Haugen, the average year of primary schooling for adults increase from “2.4 years to 3.8

years” (Globalization Helps Nations Develop). As a result, the spread of basic education tends to

reduce inequalities, raise health standers, and as well as being complementary to the process of

raising productivity. According to Prof Lynda, “online education like MIT’s openCoarseWare,

Open Yale, iTune U and khan Academy connects students in vast numbers, whilst enabling them

to have very similar learning experiences and work towards similar qualifications” (The

globalization of works and people). This means that people from other countries will be able to

access to Yale level education without being have to go to college proves that the world will

have equal chance and experience of education and job qualifications.

Other than providing basic education to everyone globalization also gives many forms

economic benefits to the world. Globalization makes import and export faster and cheaper,

making product cheaper and affordable, and also making travels faster and cheaper.

Globalization is helping peoples by makings products like clothing more affordable for poor

peoples. According to john green, “making a shirt could cost little as $5, and it makes Air travels

cheaper,” (Globalization1: The Upside: Crash Course World History). This gives people more

opportunities to connect with families and open to international jobs.

Globalization not just create jobs, it also improve old jobs in some kind of way.

According to Prof Lynda Grattom Director, Future of Work Consortium, “high-skills, high-wage

jobs- like investment bankers, lawyers, engineers, or IT specialists- which need complex

knowledge and expertise and cannot be substituted by technology. You can expect these jobs to

be paid increasingly well,” (The Globalization of Work - and People 1). This shows that

globalization is increasing the wages. It’s also shows that people getting minimum wages will

decrease since most people will have access to basic education from technology in the whole

world. Therefore, globalization is improving the economy by increasing wages.

Globalization increases wages in skill-related jobs because of that, many of the people get

into service- related jobs since many of those jobs required skills. In the West, globalization has

led to the rise of a service economy. According to John Green, “ in the U.S. and Europe, most

people now work not in agriculture or manufacturing but some sort of service sector; like

healthcare and education,” (Globalization2: Good or Bad). Because of this, we now have

improved healthcare and availability of doctors and nurses. This led to people having better

health and avoid getting life threatening diseases. Due to rising of teachers in educational areas,
Kaung 5

it improved spreading of basic education since many of them can work abroad in order to teach

underdeveloped countries. As a result, globalization is improving the service industry.

Globalization is also benefiting the world by growing economies. Bill Reinsch, said that

due globalization, “American economies is expected to grow by 2.5 billion dollars [which is why

it is creating new jobs in America]” (Free Trade Boosts US Exports and Creates American Jobs

2). This means that American has potential to grow their economy with other countries, and open

to new jobs. Not just America, countries like China, India, and other less developed countries to

grow their economy and develop the country. This could eventually end poverty and put an end

to world hunger.

Globalization is also ending poverty due to globalization of technology. According to

Nicole Sweeney, “poverty has declined due to introduction of technology like fertilizer, and pest

killers are spreading in order to keep farms healthy,” (Global Stratification and Poverty: Crash

Course Sociology). This means that the whole world is getting developed technology to keep

farms alive and grow the economy. This proves that globalization of technology is helping the

growth of economy.

Another benefit of globalization is that it is reducing world hunger. According to Gale

Student Resources in context the major cause of world hunger is,” Areas that lack the ability to

provide adequate food are usually developing countries that have unstable governments or fragile

economies,”( World Hunger 3). The weak economy is the cause of the world hunger, but

globalization is helping to strengthen the weak economy of those under developed countries

develop more. This could result in reductions of world hunger problems and even ending it.

In conclusion, globalization have many positive effects in the world. Locally, it has

positive effects by raising paid wages. Nationally, it grew the U.S.’s economy by billions of

dollars. And internationally, helps small countries develop, gain access to technology, and

provides basic education. Many argue that globalization is bad because jobs are being taken

away job, but it’s also creating new jobs as a result. Therefore, globalization is giving advantage

to the world by creating new jobs, providing basic education to the whole world, and improving

the economy.
