Hello, I’m Debashish Chakraborty, the author of

Wellness Vibes, The Harmonic Resonance ...…♩♪♫♬ ♩♪♫♬

I will narrate my story towards pursuing Wellness in life

while meandering through scores of challenges,
experiencing numerous ups & downs and the bumpy
rides.
I have also dwelt upon few aspects that contributed
towards creating such wellness vibes.
What’s inside

➢ The Initial Years

➢ Life changers
➢ Wellness
➢ Early Retirement – dream or reality
➢ Conclusion
➢ The Wellness Seeker
Those Life changers

Earlier days
Mergers, takeovers, re-engineering were experiences
that I was exposed to during late nineties - an earlier
part of my professional career. I was forced to accept
the fact that even the #1 company in a trade can be
purchased by someone down below the ranks! That
takeover taught me the BEST lesson in my life – go for
Start-up! To bring Happiness in your life just work for
yourself.
No looking back
It was 1998! Unlike most others, the initial setup and
take-off went on smooth. I always thrived to make my
customers Happy and that was my payback during my
initial start-up days. I owe a lot to all of them who
reciprocated.
The twister
The economic downturn during the 2008-2009 led to a
total shift of my activities and industry. I identified the
exact opportunity and always accepted new challenges
to be flexible. My decisions are mostly aimed at
attaining true Happiness in what I do.
The Initial years in a new country

Move to Singapore
Even a successful professional career with a well settled
family life in my home city could not stop me from
moving Southeast. I was the first among others to grab
this opportunity. New country, new people, new eco-
system – I was confident that I’ll do it! The initial years
were cool, easy but exciting! Together as a Family we
faced challenges but was very Happy to overcome
them.
Bolt from the Blue!
We had to leave the rented apartment where we all
were so well settled – much to our plead for an
extension! However, this forced us to take one of the
major decision in our life – something we had never
planned or even dreamt in our dreams! We moved
from a rented to our OWN apartment. Facing
challenges always make me Happy, this experience was
no exception.
Wellness

Wellness is the optimal state of health of individuals and

groups. There are two focal concerns: the realisation of
the fullest potential of an individual physically,
psychologically, socially, spiritually and economically, and
the fulfilment of one’s role expectations in the family,
community, place of worship, workplace and other
settings.

Wellness and the Pyramid….

We can correlate the need for wellness from the base

to the apex - the entire pyramid of Maslow’s Hierarchy
of Need.
The focus of our need gradually shifts from the body to
the mind – physical to psychological – as we move up.

YOGA enhances Wellness

Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual

practices or disciplines which originated in ancient
India. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means
to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and
consciousness.
It is a traditional therapeutic system which continues to
exist since ages.
Yoga can be practiced anywhere by people of all age
groups - from childhood to healthy ageing, irrespective
of their socio-economic status.
Yoga provides effective way of stress relieve and is
believed to offer means for self-actualization of human
potential to perfection.
International Forum
WHO respects traditional health care practices and has
been advocating for integration of best practices and
good quality traditional medicines into national health
systems, as appropriate.
Today it is practiced in various forms around the world
and continues to grow in popularity.
Recognizing its universal appeal, on 11 December 2014,
the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the
International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131.
The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness
worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.

Yoga for Health

The theme for the 2017 celebration, organized by the
Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, is
'Yoga for Health.' The theme highlights the fact that
yoga can contribute in a holistic way to achieving an
equilibrium between mind and body. The organizers
believe that this approach to health and wellbeing can
make a direct and useful contribution to humankind's
quest to achieve sustainable development and move
towards lifestyles that are in harmony with nature.
Om (aum), Yoga, the Ganga and the Himalayas
I woke up early at the chant of Om (aum) by locals
practicing Yoga by the bank of river Ganga at the small
town of Rishikesh in North India.

Soon I found myself at the river bank sitting on a rock

and closely watching at the activities of the group.
The sound of the rapids, conch shells and bells ringing
at a nearby temple created that perfect vibe – which
immediately struck a note in my mind and permeated
over my whole body….it was that feeling of WELLNESS!

The ambience was so overwhelming that I could

immediately feel the positive vibe in my body and mind
which ultimately brought in an awesome upheaval of
my life!

A whole new world opened up in front of me….

Influencers of natural frequency in human life

I spent next few days at Rishikesh and the adjoining

areas in the foothills of the Himalayas.

I realised that in spite of poverty and hardship in life

coupled with extreme weather conditions of the
Himalayas, there was that sense of ‘celebration of life’
among all. They always greeted people with a big smile,
appeared happy and healthy – they were encircled with
the aura of Wellness!

Speaking from experience, I could correlate that there

are primarily three major influencers of natural
frequencies in our life, which primarily contributes to
that state of mind and body:

➢ FOOD
➢ COMPANY
➢ ENVIRONMENT

A proper balance of the above tunes results in wellness

vibes that influences our body and mind to a great
extent.

I’ll dwell on how I nurtured and developed each

element of the tripod that laid the foundation of my
existence and dwelling.
The FOOD we eat
Having the ‘right’ kind of food and in ‘right’ proportion
is of utmost importance.

It really doesn’t matter how much more spend on food.

I still remember my grandmother reminding us that one
must eat to live – only then can he/she live to eat.

Now, I realize why it’s of utmost importance to have a

proper and balanced diet.

Proper diet boosts our wellness level to greater heights!

However, the healthiest diet comes from homemade
food “Cooked and Served” with love.

I owe a lot of my uneventful health status, till date, to

the home cooked food I carry to my work place.

Various factors lead to the decision of choice of the

‘perfect food’ viz., seasonality and availability, climate
and weather, health and medical conditions, etc.
Consultation from a Nutritionist will assist in the proper
selection.
Few basic rules that I try to adhere:

1. Small portion of meals upto 6 times/day instead of

the normal 3 meals/day rule.
2. Avoid fries – fat and oil.
3. More organic – both veggies and fruits.
4. Lean towards lean meat – no red med.
5. No alcohol.

The COMPANY we keep

A Man is known by the company he keeps.

I consider myself to be extremely lucky to have
likeminded school friends – it is a gift of the almighty.

Let’s not forget that along with friends we always rely

on our neighbours both in bad and good times.

Thus, we must keep nurturing the good relationship

that developed over a long or short period of time to
make it an everlasting one – at school or even at work.

Simply, just sharing a joke with a friend or neighbour for

a good laugh, sharing quality time on common
interests, enhances wellness to superior heights.

I have few groups of friends with whom I engage with

my family in various activities, year-round viz., Travel
Group, Photography Group, ex. Rotary Group.
I always look forward to those events throughout the
year.
Engaging in various activities – both indoor and outdoor
contributes immensely not only in relationship building
and nurturing friendship among existing ones, but also
I came across a wide gamut of people from various
walks of life who eventually became good friends in my
life. This enhances my Wellness Vibes!
We meet once a year in Kolkata, India at our school
re-union – no matter which part of the world we live.
The wellness vibes drawn during the meet keeps up
going for another year!

The ENVIRONMENT we live

Living in apartments located at high end downtowns or

villas at posh rivieras do not generally account for a
proper living environment. It is what and how we build
around our living space.

Keeping the area clean, growing and maintaining plants

around our home, actively participating in locality
programmes adds to the positive wellness vibes.

I spent my growing days in a locality fostering share and

care. We were more under the close watch and
guidance of the elderly persons in our locality that our
parents.

Our locality was our home – we all were members of a

single family. Never did we feel left alone – more so in
bad times. That’s how our environment contributed
towards our Mental Wellness.

Compulsory participation in Community games round

the year contributed towards our Physical Wellness.
Minor improvements at the workplace e.g., installation
of a water cooler machine, introduction of
ergonomically friendly office cubicles, with few minor
changes here and there yielded in much enhanced
productivity from my staff.
Proper upkeep and maintenance at home, locality and
workplace – the environment we live in, contributes to
enhanced Wellness. Till date I continue to dwell on that
solid wellness foundation laid by environment around
us.

Attributes

I benefit from the positive wellness vibes thus emitted

due to the harmonious interaction among the elements
FOOD, COMPANY and ENVIRONEMT by properly and
continuously nurturing them.

Over the various phases in my life, I have experienced

various attributes towards the overall wellness of a
person – his actions, attitude, habits to name a few.

I have experienced closely people living with frugal

means still enjoying every bit of happiness in their way,
radiating positive wellness vibes, which to the contrary,
a wealthy and rich person was still searching in life.

Those wellness attributes, over a period of time, all

summed up and transformed my life. Those magical
accelerators influence me, my family and even people
around me.
