Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Engagement: I will engage the students by opening up a discussion about what they think weather is and
certain aspects of weather representation: I will also use a video about weather that is interesting but not
frightening as the kids are young.
Action and Expression: . I could further the engagement by allowing kids to reenact the different parts of
weather, whether that is rain, wind, storms etc
I would also use this for a disabled student by having visuals and pictures for kids who are visually or
hearing disabled.

Lesson idea implementation: The teacher will start by asking the students if they know about weather.
What do they think weather is. She would ask the kids to draw a type of weather, whether it be rain, snow,

hail etc. After the kids have a little bit of an understanding, I would bring in a meteorologists and have them
explain how the weather works and to give tutorials. As the teacher, I would let the kids reenact rain or wind
or a tornado depending on what they wanted to reenact. As an activity, I will make a PowerPoint on what
description goes into what weather. I will have a box full of different words related to weather (rain, snow,
hail, lightening, sun, etc) and then have a small sentence that describes a certain word related to weather.
Because the kids may not be able to read every word, I will go over the PowerPoint with them and then have
the kids choose which word goes to each description and that will show me whether the kids understand the
information.
Reflective Practice: The activities that I designed will help the students with memorization and
understanding. This activity or lesson is designed to introduce the topic of weather to kids. I wanted to have
an activity that was interactive and fun. If I was to enhance this lesson, I would try to find a simulation or take
a field trip to the weather center or try to find a storm chaser to tell stories and show videos.
