Purdue STEM Teaching Facility

Media Toolkit
Our Mission
To move Purdue and the world forward in
the fields of science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics.

Since its founding in 1869, Purdue University has strived to be at the

center of making the world a better place. Whether its pushing the
boundaries of exploration, taking giant leaps of innovation that will
improve the way we live, or leaving our footprints on the moon, the
Boilermaker Spirit can be felt throughout the world and beyond.

As students walk the hallowed grounds bearing the name of our

benefactor John Purdue, they continue the legacy of moving the world
forward and sharpening themselves for the challenges of tomorrow; just
as Purdue has been doing for over 150 years.
The Value of the STEM Teaching Facility

The STEM Teaching Facility will be the first new space of its kind at Purdue in
nearly 50 years, housing labs of the future for the College of Science
Department of Biological Sciences and Department of Chemistry.

The building will welcome all Purdue students — inside and beyond the
College of Science — who take core courses in these areas. When its doors
open in 2020, the STEM facility will also set the stage for novel research and
course designs connecting chemistry and biology.
Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr.

Mitch Daniels currently serves as Purdue’s 12th

President, and brings with him a lifetime’s worth of
managerial experience from multiple sectors and
industries. Daniels was elected as the 49th
Governor of Indiana in 2004 and again in 2008,
where he helped position Indiana as a leader in
global business, research, and fiscal responsibility.
He has also served as President of North American
Pharmaceutical Operations at Eli Lilly & Co., a
senior advisor to President Ronald Reagan and
Director of the Office of Management and Budget
under President George W. Bush.

He has won numerous awards, national acclaim for

his budgetary acumen, and has kept a Purdue
education affordable by keeping tuition frozen for
the past seven years.

Miller Family Professor of Statistics and
Computer Science
Professor Wolfe leads the College of Science at
Purdue University and was recently named the 2018
Distinguished Lecturer in Data Science by the
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. His
research is focused on the mathematical
foundations of data science.

A past recipient of the Presidential Early Career

Award for Scientists and Engineers from the White
House, he has provided expert advice on
applications of data science to policy, societal and
commercial challenges including to the US and UK
governments and to a range of public and private
