C Mechanical Requirements

3.0.1 The design is intended primarily to satisfy the requirement for a monitor to display images from cameras
mounted on a Boeing 737 aircraft (located centre console). The unit is however, to be designed in such a way
that it may be applicable to a wider range of aircraft.
3.0.2 The unit uses a 5.6” diagonal LCD monitor, which is the largest to fit between the standard Dzus rails (5.5”
separation)
3.0.3 The unit is fitted with a 3mm protective anti-reflective plate glass screen. Substantiation work has been carried
out to ensure that this is fit for purpose.
3.0.4 Dimensions of the Unit. 146mm x 133mm x 88mm ( standard back ) or
146mm x 133mm x 67mm ( shallow back )
3.0.5 Maximum weight 750g.
3.0.6 Materials used
 Cast Frontplate Al Alloy LM25
 Other Fabricated Parts Al Alloy sheet BSEN 485:3103H4/5251H22 or 6061T4
3.0.7 Finishes Alocrom to Def Stan 03-18
3.0.8 Paint as per PIN Number

D Software Safety Assessment

4.0.1 There is no software component in the unit

E Airworthiness

The product is capable of being fitted externally in an aerospace application.

The design reflects this, paying particular attention to the following documents:

5.0.1 CS-25 Large Aeroplanes 1301, 1309, 1351, 1363

5.0.2 CAA Airworthiness Notices 49, 65

TESTING AND FAULT ISOLATION

1 Introduction

This document specifies how to test the FV0835 6” Colour LCD Monitor.

2 Initial Requirements
The following are required:

28V D.C. bench supply.

22pin MIC connector Test cable with all Cabin Vu 123 components

Test Pattern Generator

Digital Multimeter

Oscilloscope, better than 50MHz with a good video trigger

Check that the UUT is of the correct video standard for the required system specification, and that so are
the test sources.

The UUT will be fully assembled

3 Power Tests
3.1 Ensure that the Power supply is switched to the OFF position.
3.2 Connect the power supply to the unit at pin 14 (28V dc) and 15 (0V dc).
3.3 Connect pins 2 (ON_OFF) to pin 3(Chassis) and Switch ON, ensure that the current drawn from the supply
is between 300mA and 500mA.

4 Video Checks
4.1 Apply a 50 ohms balanced colour bar video signal from the Test Pattern to pins 10(Monitor +) and
11(Monitor -).
4.2 Check that the picture is satisfactory.
4.3 Check that the colour rendition is correct.
4.4 Select Multiburst from the Video Signal Generator.
4.5 Check that at least two sets of resolution bars are distinguishable.
4.6 Select Matrix from the Video Signal Generator.
4.7 Check that the long grey horizontal bar is at the bottom of the picture and the blue vertical bar is on the right
hand side of the picture.
4.8 Check that at the Geometry of the picture is correct, i.e. the verticals are vertical, and there are no geometric
distortions.

5 Final Checks
5.1 Perform a visual overall inspection of the LCD monitor.
5.2 Clean the LCD screen face of any smears, finger prints, etc using a non-abrasive cleaner and a lint-free clean
cloth.

Note:
UPON NO ACCOUNT MUST ANY ABRASIVE OR SOLVENT CLEANING FLUIDS or COMPOUNDS
BE ALLOWED TO CONTACT THE LCD SCREEN’S PLASTIC FRONT.
PERMANENT DAMAGE MAY RESULT TO THE SCREEN’S OPTICALLY CLEAR FINISH.

PERFORM FINAL CONFIDENCE TEST WITH COMPLETE CABINVU 123 SYSTEM (FV-0410, FV-
1050, FV-0580/0581 with the FV-0835) ALL CONNECTED.

FAULT ISOLATION

“There is no picture on the screen”

 Firstly, check the current drawn by the Unit. It should be 250mA +/-50mA @ 28VDC, no current being drawn
then suspect the PCB-835IA

 Check the Video input to the Unit.

 IF the video is okay, suspect the LCD driver board (Integral to LCD.

 Check Back lights on LCD

 IF no back lights then suspect the Inverter board (Integral to LCD.

 IF above actions are not rectified the problem then Suspect the LCD panel.

“The Contrast and Brightness controls don’t function correctly”

 Firstly, suspect the LCD driver board if not then suspect the PCB-835IA

ASSEMBLY AND STORAGE

Refer to Detailed Parts List and drawings of the IPL and Internal Schematic Cableform diagram.

All threads without a specified locking device must use an adhesive locking compound i.e. Loctite 243 or similar. On
threads smaller than M2 Loctite 222 or similar is to be used. Do not use the adhesive locking compound on any screw
that is in contact with any plastic mouldings or is made of plastic, this includes nylon.
The minimum assembly standard for Mechanical & Electronic units shall be not less than IPC-A-610 class 2

Observe ESD Protection requirements

1. Attach frontplate (75) to Box section (90) using screws (80) and (85).
2. Position LCD (45) onto Frontplate (75) ensuring ribbon cable and inverter connections pass through their relevant
slots.
3. Secure Frontcasting (35) onto above assembly using screws (10).
4. Position Driver PCB (60) onto standoffs making sure Nylon Washers (65) are placed beneath the PCB and secure
using Nyloc Nuts (70).
5. Position Inverter PCB (50) onto standoffs on Frontplate (75), secure using nuts (65) whilst ensuring that the black
‘bonding lead’ from the LCD (45) is attached to PCB and secured.
6. Connect ribbon cable from LCD (45) to Driver PCB (60) JP2 and also connect the ‘two way’ header from LCD
(45) to Inverter PCB (50) CN2.
7. Fit and position the modified cableform from LCD (45).
8. Terminate all wiring from Driver (60) and Inverter PCBs (50) as per wiring diagram.
9. Fit MIL C Connector assembly (15) to rear plate (5) using screws (10).
10. Connect LCD (45) cabling to MIL C assembly (15).
11. Fit and secure Rearplate (5) to Box-section (90) using screws (10).

STORAGE

All units shall be stored in the protective packing in which they are supplied.

Before any unit enters service and is fitted to an aircraft a functional test should be carried out.
