O O
b) For a gyro damped in tilt find the total gyro error while steering 060 (G) in latitude 40 S at a speed of 15 knots.
Given that Pd : PC = 1/40 (15)
Q.3 On board a vessel flinders bar was observed to be placed at an angle of 15 O towards port side from fore and aft
line; soft iron spheres were placed athwartship. Explain with suitable sketches the reason(s) for such an arrangement.
(25)
SECTION ‘B’
Q.4 What are the advantages and disadvantages of constant rudder angle turn and constant radius turn. Discuss
navigational situations where constant radius turn is to be used and show with a neat sketch how wheel over point is
to be plotted on the chart. How will you monitor such a turn. (25)

Q.8 a) Explain the precautions to be taken into account w.r.t. AIS (13)
b) State the entries to be made on course recorder for a voyage. (12)
Target E Target F
Time Bearing Range Bearing Range
1630 063O(T) 12.0 M 128½O(T) 11.4 M
1642 063O 08.4 137O 08.5
Analyze the plot and state what alteration of course is to be made at 1648 to ensure that CPA range of E is 2 M.
Having taken this action, what would be the bearing and range of F (from own ship) when E is at its CPA?
Q.2 A ship is making good 270O (T) while her gyro compass shows 265O (G), in 54O41’N latitude. She is required to
make good 170O (T) at 19 knots. What gyro course would you set on her auto pilot?
(There is NO CURRENT & this gyro compass has NO OTHER ERRORS).
