Experience with SwRI has included six years as the Operations Team Lead for the Ion Neutral Mass
Spectrometer (INMS) instrument on the Cassini spacecraft, which orbited Saturn from 2004-2017, and two
years leading the operations planning process for the MAss Spectrometer for Planetary EXploration (MASPEX)
instrument that will be part of the Europa Clipper mission scheduled to launch in 2023.

Operations responsibilities included:

- Commanding the INMS instrument, detecting and investigating anomalies,
- Collaborating with the INMS science team to gain understanding of the scientific goals,
- Optimizing operations of the instrument to best meet the team’s scientific goals,
- Project management support and facilitation of regularly-scheduled team meetings,
- Coordination with domestic and international space scientists and agencies.

Data analysis efforts included:

- Managing data and information from multiple teams and instruments,
- Analyzing data to assess performance and to support scientific investigations and modelling,
- Developing algorithms and routines that could run repeatedly as new data was received,
- Presenting data findings to instrument and spacecraft teams,
- Recommending operational and analytical actions that would improve scientific understanding,
- Advising the team on appropriate handling and analysis of imperfect long-term data sets.

Planning activities included:

- Developing processes and checklists for future operations activities,
- Interfacing with spacecraft teams to ensure seamless integration of instrument,
- Creating budget projections, risk assessments, and funding proposals for future projects,
- Presenting all plans to instrument management and NASA review boards.
