THE WRITING PROCESS

The writing process that will be used in drafting each essay has several steps:

1. Thinking and Planning – re: topic, thesis, audience, format,


tone, requirements, purpose.

2. Prewriting Techniques – brainstorming, listing, questioning


outlining, mapping (cluster grouping). ONE OF THESE
TECHNIQUES MUST BE USED; MORE THAN ONE
CAN BE USED IF DESIRED.

3. First draft – after an outline or some sort of plan showing


the organization of ideas, a first draft is written.

4. First revision – large-scale revision—rewriting sections and


paragraphs, moving paragraphs, adding sections.

5. Second draft – a rewriting after large-scale revision.

6. Second revision – sentence-level revision—rewriting in-


complete ideas, rearranging words within sentences, rear-
ranging order of sentences, choosing suitable vocabulary.

7. Editing – checking spelling, grammar, word use,


punctuation, capitalization.

8. FINAL WORD-PROCESSED COPY, COMPLETE WITH


ALL ABOVE STAGES, SUBMITTED IN WRITING
FOLDER.
