Part I: Photograph/Picture
This is a question by showing a picture and followed by four statements/four options (A,B,C,D).
Strategies:
a. Listen carefully for four statements.
b. Identify the picture carefully for:
 Person : Gender (man/woman).
Sum (how many person involve in the picture)
 Clothes : dress, shirt, pants, jacket, blazer, tie, etc
 Accessories and tool : rings, necklace, bracelets, watch, hat, stick, computer, comb,
Mick, bicycle, car, etc.
 Characteristics : face, hair, short, tall, skin color, etc
 Location : the place that use in the picture, such as: building, road, yard,
garden, beach, a corner in a room, on the table, in a pocket, etc.
 Activities : all activities that done by the person in the picture, such as;
riding, reading, typing, talking, holding, singing, walking, etc.
c. Choose the statement/option that match with the picture.

Part II: Question-Responses


This is one question followed by three responses (A, B, C).
Strategies:
a. Listen carefully for the question and responses.
b. Pay attention for:
a) The types of the questions:
 Question words: who, what, which, when, where, whose, why, how
 Question with Auxiliary verbs/yes-no question:
to be : are, am, is, was, were.
To do : do, does, did
To have : has, have, had
Modals : can, may, must, shall, will, ought to, should,
would, could.
 Question tags

b) Subjects: I, you, we, they, he, she, it
c) The time marker (tenses)
d) Similar sound: don not ever choose the similar sound between question and responses.

Part III: Short Conversation.


This is one short conversation by two speakers followed by one question with four options (A, B, C, D).

STRATEGIES:
a. Read carefully for the question and four options.
b. Listen carefully for the conversation.
c. From the conversation, pay attention for:
a) Who: first speaker (man / woman)
Second speaker (man/woman)
b) What: Activity, problem/discussion, opinion, occupation, etc.
c) Where: The place that conversation take place or the place that are talking in the
conversation.
d) When: period of time that are talking in the conversation.
e) How: the condition of the speakers.
How long: sum of time that are talking in the conversation.
How often: the frequency of activity is talking in the conversation.
f) Why: The problem that is talking in the conversation.
g) First line and the last line statement in the conversation and find the synonym
statement/word from the four options.
d. Choose the option that match with the question.
Examples:
a) Who: the question about the speakers in the conversation.
Man : I’m planning to give a test in the first day of school.
Woman : I don’t like giving test.
Man : If my students hear that, they’ll want to go to your class.

Who are the speakers?

b) What: the question about activity, discussion, opinion, etc. in the conversation.
Woman : Do you need some help typing the report?
Man : I sure do. I need to be completed by one.

D. Cooking.

c) Where: the question about a place that a conversation is taking place or a place is talking in a
conversation.
Man : Would you like a table inside or on the patio?
Woman : It’s such a lovely day, I’ll eat on the patio.
Man : Certainly. Right this way, please.

Where will the woman eat?


A. Inside.
B. At home
C. In the park.
D. On the patio.

d) When: the question about period of time that are talking in the conversation.
Man : This tour bus stop at all museums and monuments.
Woman: Will we stop in the market district?
Man : The last stop on the tour is next to the market district.

When can the woman go to the market district?


A. Before the tour start.
B. During the tour.
C. At the end of the tour.
D. On a different tour.

e) How: The question about the condition of the speakers in the conversation.
Man : I can’t find any of the faxes that I sent yesterday. I need to res end them.
Woman: Don’t worry. Did you check the fax machine?
Man : I checked there, the waste basket, the filling cabinet. I don’t know where else to look.

How does the man feel?

This is one monolog by one speaker followed by two or three
questions, and for each question followed by four options (A, B, C, D).

b. Listen carefully for the short talk.
c. Pay attention for sum of the questions.
d. From the short talk, pay attention for:

f. What : Activity, problem/discussion, opinion, occupation, etc.
g. Where : The place that the sort talk take place or the place that
is talking in the short talk.
h. When : period of time that are talking in the short talk.
i. How : the condition of the speakers.
How long : sum of time that is talking in the short talk.
How often : the frequency of activity is talking in the short talk.
j. Why : The problem that is talking in the short talk.
k. First line and the last line statement in the short talk and find the
synonym statement/word from the four options.
