Our group is thankful to the Head of Department and the course instructor who
have chosen us for this task. The tireless efforts of our teacher has made a great
contribution in our way towards the completion of this project successfully.
Moreover, we are grateful to the administration staff whose goal is to shape the
students’ mind according to the complexities of the life by these projects.
Lastly, we are extremely grateful to the instructor Sir Ahmed, who has been
there for us time of difficulties and addressed our queries accordingly.

~:~~~~~~~~~~~~ABSTRACT~~~~~~~~~~:~

A project related to a site visit was assigned in which we were asked to determine
the strength of the structure by considering the tests reports on specific specimen.
The visit was done by ourselves so we were able to learn. Multiple tests reports
were gathered and as a result of those were now able to comprehend the reports
of different specimens.

THE SITE REPORT

Introduction:
The core reason behind the course of mechanics is to have a brief knowledge
upon the strength of different materials. Each material is used for distinctive
purposes in the field of civil engineering, since; each material is designed for a
specific purpose. All of these construction materials are later combined together
to form a big structure. The aim of this project was to inculcate in students the
knowledge regarding the strength and purposes if these materials.
Objective:
The target area of the project was to research on the steel structure by studying
its behaviour under specific tests. Since we were aware of the different types of
steel which are used in the construction industry, therefore; we determined the
differences between different steel bars.
Few of the types of steel are listed:
(i) Mild steel
(ii) Brittle steel
(iii) Stainless steel

Methodology:
Since, the purpose of visiting a ‘real-life’ example of engineering is to gain a
better sense of your field at work. Therefore, research methodology was based on
the analysis of the structure after visiting a construction site and gather data for
the steel specimen being used for the construction. Apart from this, an idea about
the field work was also gained after the visit. Later, the data was manipulated
and results were supposed to be concluded with the data. Few of the points which
were to be addressed in the report are as follows:
(i) The information of the site which was selected.
(ii) Type of steel used and its tests.
(iii) The criteria upon which the steel was selected.
(iv) Tension test report
Type of research:
Site visit:
Since it was a site visit, therefore; the research motivated the students to relate
their theoretical knowledge with practical experiences. The research was based
on practical work rather than theoretical tasks.
The site:
Since, the major use of steel bars are seen at sites where there is a big construction
project proceeding, hence; the construction site of a plaza was selected for the
fulfilment of the required task. The plaza is located in Bahria Town Lahore. Since,
the place itself is known for its gigantic and well-constructed civil engineering
structure, hence; the site was considered for analysis. The name of the site was
_________.
How research was conducted?
The site was visited on Saturday, 1st December, 2018. The site was completely
inspected and required data was collected from the site engineer. Questions
regarding the site and steel were also asked. Moreover, pictures of site and the
steel bar was also taken. Relevant details regarding the steel specimen was also
gathered.
The data which was collected is as follows:
(i) Tension test on steels
(ii) Bending test on steel
(iii) Plan of the site
(iv) Grade of the steel
(v) The laboratory used for test.
