Description of HSMS mill roller lubrication.

General

The LOESCHE roller lubrication system HSMS has the following functions:

1. To force lubricate the grinding roller internals with mineral oil.

Introduction

Fig 1
Roller lubrication

The basic arrangement for the roller lubrication is shown in Fig 1. Each roller is
equipped with a suction and a pressure pump. The suction pump has a higher rated
flow than the pressure pump. First the suction pump is started followed by the pressure
pump. This ensures that the roller cannot overflow and operates on the siphon principle.
A trip on the suction pump will trip the pressure pump immediately.
The roller lubrication is started normally a half an hour after the mill. If the mill trips
before this half hour elapses the delay time to re-start the roller lubrication is reduced by
the time already counted. The timer details are shown in the interlocking diagram

Instrumentation
The lubrication system is fitted with an RTD for heating temperatue control and a level
switch to protect the pump and the heater against dry running as standard. The level
switch low signal will trip the roller lubrication system. The roller return line is also fitted
with an RTD.

Switching points and alarm levels

Level < min for 5 sec Trip roller lubrication

Heating system
The roller lubrication cabinet is fitted with a cartridge heater in the oil tank. The tank
temperature is measured via an RTD which is connected either directly to an RTD input
card to the control system or via an RTD/4 … 20mA transmitter and connected to an
analogue input card.

Switching points and alarm levels

1) Oil tank temperature
T> 15°C Lubrication pumps permissive
T< 55°C Heating On
T> 60°C Heating Off
T> 70°C Warning
T> 80°C Trip roller lubrication if disturbance prevails for t>=30mmin.

2) Roller return line temperature

T> 70°C Warning
T> 80°C Trip roller lubrication if disturbance prevails for t>=30mmin.

Heat tracing
In colder regions and depending on the general arrangement of the mill, it may be
necessary to heat trace the roller lubrication piping.
