Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 6 with integration of the following:

1. vocabulary skills
2 numeracy skills
3. differentiated instruction
4. HOTS
5. use of ICT – laptop, projector, speakers, video & slide deck presentations

Teacher: EDWIN N. SUIZO

Section: Andres C. Bonifacio
Time: 2:00 – 2:45 p.m.
Date: February 7, 2019

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards
The learners demonstrate understanding of the earth’s rotation and revolution.

B. Performance Standards
The learners should be able to design an emergency and prepared plan and kit.

C. Learning Competencies/ Objectives (Write the LC code for each.)

Demonstrate rotation of the earth using a globe to explain day and night (S6ES-IVe-f-
5)

II. CONTENT
Rotation of the Earth
 Explain the cause of day and night
 Illustrate a model that shows day and night
 Work cooperatively with the group

A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages (Not Yet Issued)
2. Learner’s Materials pages (Not yet issued)
3. Textbook pages pp. 6 - 13
4. Additional Materials from Learning Resource (LR) portal Slide Deck Presentation
B. Other Learning Resources Activity cards, pictures, improvised model of
earth’s rotation

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
Ask pupils to describe how the earth rotates.

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson (Integration of Vocabulary Skills)

Ask pupils to find the words related to the movement of the earth in the given cross
word puzzle.

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson

1. Ask pupils to tell their observations about the changing of man’s activity throughout
the day. Ask them why people are more active during day time rather than night
time.
2. Ask pupils to identify the movements which the earth does in the space.
3. Video Presentation. Set the standards in viewing a presentation.
Let the pupils watch the video about the cause of day and night.
4. Make a brief discussion on the concept of the earth rotation that cause day and
night.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1 (Integration of Numeracy Skills)
To further pupils understanding of the concept and skills, lead them to demonstrate
how earth’s rotation affects day and night through the use of improvised set up.
1. Using flashlight which serves as the sun and the globe which serves as the earth,
demonstrate the rotation of the earth. (Emphasized the period of earth’s
rotation(complete rotation = 1 day or 24 hours), the direction where it starts to
rotate, and the earth’s relation to the sun as it rotates on its axis.)
2. Identify which part of the earth receives the sunlight and the part that doesn’t
receive.
3. Tell what part of the day on the earth that receives sunlight and the part that
doesn’t receive.
4. Based on the given activity, let pupils tell what makes day and night.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2 (Integration of Differentiated

Activity)
1. Setting of standard for the simple Science activity.
2. Present the Rubric to be used in assessing the conduct of the group activity.
3. Group Activity
Group 1 – Explaining the Cause of Day and Night
Group 2 – Earth’s Rotation Causes Day and Night
Group 3 – Differences between Day and Night
Group 4 – Day and Night Activities

Group Presentation/ Reporting

Assessment of the Presentation
F. Developing mastery (leads to Formative Assessment 3)
Through the accomplished simple activities, let pupils relate the rotation of the earth
to the varied activities of people during day and night.

G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living (Integration of

HOTS)
Ask pupil what might happen if the earth does not rotate. What effects might it bring
to the earth itself, to the people and other living organism on it, to the temperature,
etc.

H. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson

Let pupils summarize the concept of earth’s rotation which causes day and night. .

I. Evaluating learning
Identifying true and false statements. (1-5)

V. HOMEWORK
Describe in 3 sentences how Earth revolves around the sun.

Group 1 – Explaining the Cause of Day and Night

EXPLAIN THE CAUSE OF DAY AND NIGHT

1. Fill in the blank.

The light comes from the _______.
The light shines on our planet _______________.
Every day the earth _________________ around.
When the sun shines on us it is _________________.
When we face away from the sun it is _________________________.

Earth sun daytime

rotates/spins night time

2. Label and color the picture to show where it is day and where it is night.
Group 2 – Earth’s Rotation Causes Day and Night

Group 3 – Differences between Day and Night

Group 4 – Day and Night Activities

Formative Evaluation

Direction: Write TRUE if the statement is correct and FALSE if it is wrong.

1. Rotation of the Earth causes night and day.

2. It takes one year or 365 & ¼ days for the Earth to rotate completely on its axis.
3. Different parts of the Earth experience day and night because the Earth is rotating on its axis.
4. When the sun shines on the part of the Earth, that part is night time.
5. The activities of people on the different parts of the Earth differ during day time and night time.
