Terminologies
Bargaining Power – in negotiating, capacity of one party to dominate the other due to its
influence, power, size, or status, or through a combination of different persuasion tactics.
Freelance – working for different companies at different times rather than being permanently
employed by one company.
Globalization – the process by which businesses or other organizations develop international
influence or start operating on an international scale.
Labour Union – are a group of people who represent workers in different occupations, and
work to protect the right of the workers, such as working conditions and wages.
Liberalization – the removal or loosening of restriction on something, typically an economic or
political system.
Loophole – usually-unintended ambiguity, exception, omission, or technical defect in a text that
allows a legal interpretation or practice which evades or frustrates the intent of a contract, law,
or rule without violating its literal interpretation.
Outsource – obtain goods or a service from an outside or foreign supplier, especially in place of
an internal source.
Parental leave – is time away from work in order to take care of his or her new born baby.
Pension – dismiss someone from employment, typically because of age or ill health, and pay
them a pension.
Precarity – the state of having insecure employment for income.
Precarious Work – the term precarious is used to refer to a type of work which is poorly paid,
unprotected, and insecure.
Solidarity – unity or agreement of feeling or action, especially among individuals with a
common interest; mutual support within a group.
Subcontractor – a business or person that carries out work for a company as part of a larger
project.
Swedish Derogation – is a model of employment where an agency hires a worker directly,
rather than being the middleman between a worker and a client company.
Unemployment Insurance – a payment made by the government to an unemployed person.

Atypical jobs – refers to employment relationships that do not conform to the standard or
‘typical’ model of full-time, regular, open-ended employment with a single employer over a
long time span.
Auto-entrepreneur – status applies to natural persons who set up or already possess a sole
proprietorship.
Flexicurity – is the separation of the provision of benefits from work.
Freelance – working for different companies at different times rather than being permanently
employed by one company.
Platform Capitalism – a way of doing business that involves recruiting large numbers of people
who work for themselves using the company’s platform, as used by companies.
Pseudo-Independence – is a false self-employment disguised to avoid paying employment
taxes and social charges.
Social Contract – an implicit agreement among the members of a society to cooperate for social
benefits.
Uberisation – defines a transition to an operational model which enables economic agents to
exchange underutilized capacity of existing assets or human resources with close to zero
transaction cost.
