1 Introduction
1.1 Positioning
Mobile operators continuously seek partners who can efficiently and cost-effectively provide
cutting-edge technologies with which to build high-quality, multimode-enabled,
future-oriented mobile networks.
Huawei continues to innovate based on customer requirements, as evidenced by the
development of its future-oriented LampSite solution that integrates radio resources and
multiple technologies. This solution is designed to expand system capacity, eliminate
coverage holes, and provide comprehensive indoor coverage for multiple networking modes,
such as GSM, UMTS, and LTE.
Improving coverage penetration in multimode scenarios, the Huawei LampSite solution uses
an optimized hardware and software architecture that features simplicity, ease-of-deployment,
and significant capital expenditure (CAPEX) savings.
The base station deployed in the Huawei LampSite solution is comprised of a baseband unit
(BBU), pico remote radio unit (pRRU), and an RRU HUB (RHUB). These modules can be
flexibly configured to suit network requirements
1.2 Benefits
The cutting-edge modular design of the Huawei LampSite solution along with the multi-mode
networking technologies allow operators to easily build the sites to customization fully
capable of accommodating different base station models.
The Huawei LampSite solution can greatly reduce both network construction costs and
Operation Expenditure (OPEX) of operators during site acquisition, capacity expansion, and
environmental protection.
Ease-of-Deployment
Connection of network elements (NEs) by optical fibers or Ethernet cables is low-cost
and allows for ease-of-deployment.
The pRRU supports power over Ethernet (PoE).
The pRRU has a modular design that supports flexible multimode configurations.
The Huawei LampSite solution is managed by the same operations support system (OSS)
as the macro network, and the entire network achieves E2E management.
High Performance
Cells can be split to expand system capacity.
The Huawei LampSite solution produces little background noise, with a superior access
success rate and a low service drop rate.
The Huawei LampSite solution supports both CPRI-MUX convergence and CPRI
compression. CPRI is short for common public radio interface.
Smooth Evolution
Multiple networking modes can coexist in one BBU configured with boards in different
modes.
By using the software-defined radio (SDR) technology that supports flexible software
configurations, radio frequency (RF) modules provide support for flexible multimode
configurations.
Supporting UMTS/LTE, one RF daughter board on the pRRU can be used in refarming for
mode evolution and deployment cost reduction. UMTS/LTE refers to UMTS only, LTE only,
or UMTS+LTE in this document.
Collaboration
Collaboration between indoor micro base stations offers enhanced capability to cell edge
users (CEUs) while reducing deployment costs.
Collaboration between micro and macro base stations, both indoors and outdoors, offers
enhanced capability for CEUs while reducing network planning costs.
1.2.2 WLAN
In SRAN9.0 and later versions, Wi-Fi daughter boards can be configured on the pRRU3901.
Specifically, the pRRU3901 can work in both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Industrial, Scientific,
and Medical frequency (ISM) bands. The Huawei LampSite solution supports orthogonal
frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS), and
complementary code keying (CCK) demodulation technologies, able to provide a data
transmission rate of 300 Mbit/s on each frequency band.
In compliance with IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n standards, when OFDM is used, the Huawei
LampSite solution uses two RF modules to provide a maximum transmission rate of 300
Mbit/s on each frequency band in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) 2x2 mode.
The Huawei LampSite solution demonstrates high stability when peak performance is
required. The processor provides high throughput and robust load capability. Stable
signal strength and quality ensure reliable wireless network operations. Automatic power
and frequency adjustment and load balancing enable flexible and stable large-scale
network operation.
A rich variety of network security features are provided, such as firewalls, media access
control (MAC) address filtering, IP address filtering, link integrity protection, and
protection against XML denial-of-service (XDos) attacks.
To further ensure network security, WLAN authentication and privacy infrastructure
(WAPI), wired equivalent privacy (WEP), Wi-Fi protected access (WPA), WPA2, and
802.1X are supported.
2 Hardware Architecture

Figure 2-3 Product architecture of the Huawei LampSite solution providing Wi-Fi services
The connection principles for the Huawei LampSite solution are as follows:
The distance between the BBU and the lowest level RHUB should not exceed 10 km.
Up to four levels of RHUBs can be cascaded. However, pRRUs cannot be cascaded.
One RHUB provides eight CPRI_E ports (CPRI_E0 to CPRI_E7), each allowing
connection to one pRRU. An RHUB can be connected to a maximum of eight pRRUs.
The RHUB and a pRRU are connected by CAT5e or above cables. With an internal PoE
module providing power, the distance between the two devices can be extended to a
maximum of 100 m, or up to 200 m if an extender is installed.

5 Technical Specifications
5.1 RF Specifications
Table 5-1 lists the frequency bands and modes supported by the pRRU.
NOTE
The 2.1 GHz, AWS, and PCS frequency bands supported by the pRRU3901 and the 2.1 GHz frequency
band supported by the pRRU3902 support UMTS+LTE dual modes on one RF daughter board.
The pRRU3902 supports only the 2.1 GHz UMTS, 1.8 GHz LTE, and 2.1 GHz LTE frequency bands.
In SRAN9.0 or later, only the pRRU3901 supports concurrent configuration of daughter boards at the
1.8 GHz LTE, 2.1 GHz UMTS+1.8 GHz LTE, or PCS UMTS+AWS LTE frequency bands with the
Wi-Fi daughter board at any frequency band. For details about frequency bands of Wi-Fi daughter
boards, see Table 5-3.
NOTE
ATBR in the RX and TX Channel column indicates that this RF module has transmit channels
(where "A" indicates number of channels) and receive channels (where "B" indicates the number of
receive channels).
C x D W in the Maximum Output Power column indicates that this RF module has C TX
channels with the maximum output power of D mW for each TX channel.
The maximum output power of the pRRU can be measured at the antenna port or calculated by using
the following formula:
Maximum output power of the pRRU = Maximum output power of the PA - Internal loss
The LTE receiver sensitivity is measured, as recommended in 3GPP TS 36.104, under a 5 MHz
channel bandwidth based on the FRC A1-3 in Annex A.1 (QPSK, R = 1/3, 25 RBs) standard.
The 11 configuration indicates two continuous carriers are configured with 5 MHz of spacing
between the center frequencies of two neighboring carriers. In 101 or 1001 configuration,
discontinuous carriers are configured. The value "0" indicates the spacing is 5 MHz. For example,
the 1001 configuration indicates that two discontinuous carriers are configured and the spacing
between the center frequencies of the two carriers is 15 MHz.
