PART A- Evelina
For our presentation today we are going to talk about
the aging problem in the world. Everyone knows that
the aging problem has become more and more serious
in some of today’s societies, but we don’t know yet how
much it can influence our world or our lives. So, today
in this presentation we will try give you some answers.

This is the content we will speak today. In the first part,

there is the definition of the aging society, then we will
talk about some serious problems of the aging society
and why we have these problems. In the last part, how
we can solve these problems. I will now give you the
definiton of an ageing society (PP, slide 1-2)

The United Nations maintains that a country with more

than 7 percent of its population over 65 years old is an
aging society. According to statistics of the United
Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in 2012, the
population of 65 years of age or older has reached 810
million, which is about 11% of the world’s population.
By 2050, the population of 65 years of age or older will
reach 2.03 billion, about 22% of the total population in
the world. We can see the number of elderly is very
huge. (PP slide 3-4)

PART C- Adeline
And also in industrialized countries, the number of
people reaching retirement age is growing, while the
number of working age people is declining. The number
of people of age 80 and older is growing at a faster rate
than any other age group worldwide. By the year 2050,
there will be almost twice as many older non-working
people than there are now, in contrast to the total
numbers of workers. We can see that the aging
problem is very serious. (PP 4)

PART D – Chen Mengmeng

Let’s see some countries situations. What about CHINA
for example? Let’s see the situation of China. At the
end of 20th century, China declared itself entering the
“aging stage”. In 2010, 65 years of age or elder people
population proportion 13.26% of total population. If in
2020, China's aging population aged 65 or older will
reach 167 million, about 24% of the world aging
population, it means that one in four elderly people in
the world are Chinese elderly.

Lets look at Japan. In 1970, They were entering the

aging stage, and also Japan is one of the countries
which has the fastest speeds into aging society. It only
took 20 years. This situation restricts the future
economic development process of Japan. (PP slide 5-
6)

PART E- Dooyoung
Another country is The United States. In 1990, over
the age of 65, elder people is 12.3% of total
population. In 2025, over the age of 65 elder people is
20.7% of total population. The american society is
experiencing a gradual aging process, and this process
will be more serious because of the increase of elderly
population. In 1950, there were 12 people of working
age for every person age 65 or older. In 2010, there
are only 9 contributing to old age support in their
countries. That means that in the US, fewer people are
contributing to Social Security and Medicare in
proportion to the number of people needing and use
those programs.

The last country we will have a look at is The united

Kingdom. In 2008, the population of people with an age
of 65 or older is 19.4% of the total population. In 2030,
over the age of 65 elder people is 22% of total
population. (PP slide 7-8)

PART F -Regana
Having a look at the situation of the worldwide aging
problem, let’s now move to what kind of serious
problems that has appeared because of the aging
society.

First, the burden of the labor force is increased. The

labor force works not only for their own survival and
development, but also for the costs of the elderly.

Second, heavy social burden. With the improvement of

aging, the costs required by the elderly are increased
quickly.

Third, traditional familypatterns faces challenges. The

sizes of the families are getting smaller and smaller,
which affects the traditional family pattern. Like China
for example where the government passed regulations
limiting families to have one child each. (PP slide 9-
11)

PART G
And why can the aging society bring these problems?
There are some reasons.
• Improvement of medical treatment
• Longer education
• High social stress
• The rapid development of economy
• The one-child policy (China)

But the most important thing is how to solve these

problems. There are some solutions. (PP slide 12)

PART H
1. Set up a social security system.
To set up a stable security system is very good because
the older people can make their self-independent.

2. Improve the old man retirement age.

If the government improves the old people retirement
age, it can provide more labor forces to the society and
also it’s a good way to reduce the burden on
government and children. (PP slide 13-14)

PART I - Wanqi
3. Implement encourage birth policy.
Now days, many countries encourage couple to have
more children, and also the government will give some
allowances if the couple have one more child.

4. Public facilities should be asked to facilitate the

elderly.

In many countries such as some developing countries,

there are no comfortable facilities to people, especially
for older people. This brings a lot of inconvenience for
the elderly. So the government should take care of it.

5. The last one is to enrich the cultural life of the

elderly.

The communities should organize more events for older

people, make them not feel so lonely. Because in
today’s world, young people are too busy so they
usually don’t have time to take care of their parents.
(PP slide 15-17)

PART J- Aona
And finally, we want to show you a video, its about the
caring for the elderly.

In conclusion, today we have talked about the aging

problem of the world, and I believe that you already
know how serious these problems can be. So, let us
reach out, pay attention to this problem, and also lend
us strength to care for the elderly.

It’s some sources of the presentation.
