1.0 GENERAL. This section covers the design, construction, and performance requirements
for the positive displacement oil pumps.
At a minimum, the following oil pumps shall be required. Additional oil pumps required for
the plant design shall be provided by the Contractor in accordance with the requirements
specified herein:
3.0 PUMP TYPE. The pumps shall be of the multiple screw type (MSP) and shall utilize
hardened screw impellers of adequate length for the specified differential pressures.
4.0 PUMP CHARACTERISTICS. The pumps shall demonstrate suction lift values as shown
on the pump characteristic curves.
Where required by system design, the pumps shall be capable of operation in parallel.
No critical speed shall occur within 25 percent above or below the pump operating speed.
5.0 CHARACTERISTIC CURVES. Characteristic curves shall be submitted for each pump.
The pump curves shall show capacity, horsepower, efficiency, and required suction lift as
ordinates and differential pressure as the abscissa.
6.0 PUMP CONSTRUCTION. The pumps shall be constructed in accordance with the
following requirements.
Idler rotors
6.2 Shaft Seals. The pump shaft seals shall be of the mechanical type. The mechanical shaft
seals shall be Borg-Warner Type QB or acceptable equal.
Metals 316SS
Elastomers Viton
Mechanical shaft seals shall be furnished with a complete integral self-flushing system. The
flushing system shall utilize the pumped fluid.
6.3 Bearings. Pump bearings shall be external or internal. Pumps with external bearings shall
be completely sealed from the pumped liquid and provided with a separate lubricant supply.
Pumps with internal bearings may have internal bearings operating in the pumped liquid, in
accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.
Lube oil transfer pump bearings shall be antifriction type. The other pumps shall utilize cast
iron internal bushings.
6.6 Baseplates. Each pump shall be provided with a heavy cast iron or fabricated steel box
type full length baseplate beneath the pump and motor. Motor mounting provisions shall be
acceptable to the motor manufacturer. Baseplates shall be designed to adequately support the
equipment under all conditions without 100 percent grout fill inside the baseplate frame.
6.7 Relief Valves. Pumps shall be provided with external relief valves. The relief valves shall
be set at the designated pressure and shall be pressure adjustable within range of installed
spring.
The pumps shall be provided with internal relief valves. These valves shall be provided with
an adjustable set point to limit maximum pump discharge pressure.
6.8 Miscellaneous Trim. All piping and valves required for air vent valves, oil level indicators,
grease lubricators, and other miscellaneous accessories shall be furnished.
