General regulations on the use of medicinal products etc.

Section 43 (shortened)
For horses participating in races in Sweden, the following measures are prohibited.

− Treatment with growth hormones.

− Treatment with anabolic steroids.
− Refrigeration which results in the reduction of pain in connection with training and/or
racing.
− Nerve blocking to enable training and/or racing.
− Treatment involving the use of substances containing arsenic, lead, mercury and/or
croton oil.
− Treatment with electric or magnetic equipment on a competition day within the track or
the stable area.
− Treatment with radioactive implants.
− Supplying additional blood, hormones (e.g. erythropoietin), manipulation of inhaled air
(“high-altitude training”) or other measures intended to increase the proportion of red
blood cells.
− Supplying hormone substances with long-term effects in order to delay oestrus.

Section 44 (shortened)
The bodily fluids (urine, blood) of a horse must not, when analysed, contain substances that
do not naturally occur in the body or cannot result from the natural consumption of fodder.
For certain substances that naturally occur in the body or can be linked to fodder there are
certain threshold limits that may not be exceeded. For some other pharmaceutical substances
reporting levels of detection are used.

Horses that are intended to participate in a competitive event or are being trained in ways that
are comparable with participation in a competitive event may not be subject to any special
treatment, such as alternative treatment methods, acupuncture, TNS, laser treatment,
blistering and electricity, for instance, that can during the competitive event or the training
have a positive or negative impact on the horse’s current ability to perform.

2014-08-01

For certain substances, certain treatments and certain other special measures, a qualifying
period applies for a horse which is to be entered in a competitive event or trained in a way
which is comparable with participation in a competitive event. These qualifying periods are
detailed in the special lists of withdrawal times.

NOTICE!

races regulated by the Swedish Trotting Association. For a complete version in Swedish please
see Tävlingsreglemente för Svensk Travsport (Competition Regulations for Swedish Trotting).

Any violation of the medical rules will be punished. The normal fine is 1 percent of the
average of yearly earned prize money based on the last three years + 10 percent of the prize
money to the winner in the race where the positive finding was made.
