What was the movie about?

This movie is about a woman (Libby) who was wrongly convicted of murdering her husband.
She gets a lengthy prisons sentence but gets out early on good behavior. When she discovers that
not only was she set up, but also that the person who did it was her husband (Nick), she sets out
for revenge, planning to exploit the double jeopardy advice one of her inmates gave, which says
a person cannot be convicted for the same crime twice. At first, Libby struggled because of her
parole officer (Lehman) who followed her all the way to New Orleans. Wanted posters were
being distributed as well. In the end, due to some circumstances, Lehman believed Libby and
help put an end to the misery be having Nick killed and Libby seeing her son and reclaiming
custody.

Do you believe everything in the story?

No, because even if I am not an expert in Law or Political Science, I felt that there was
something “fishy” or something false about the plot. I did my readings based on some reviews
and websites, found one in particular from a certain John W. Whitehead, a Constitutional
attorney and founder and president of The Rutherford Institute. His comment was that there was
a misinterpretation on the concept of “double jeopardy”. Double jeopardy does not apply if the
crime took place at a different city/place and time.

Do you like the resolution?

Now that I read about double jeopardy, I did not like the resolution because she is still under
parole and truly makes her a violator, she should have gone to court again and had her testimony
or hearing about the incident and since double jeopardy doesn’t work that way, she would be
sent back to prison. The title of the movie should be “All Over Again”. If there was a scene after
Libby shot Nick to his death – like in a courtroom, we would see the court’s discussion on the
incident and Libby would pretty much end back in prison.

Moral / Lesson of the Story

In a crime scene, I learned not to touch anything so that I will not be a suspect to the crime.
Libby was seen holding the knife and it was very timely that the coast guards arrived at the
private boat. Since it was one of the evidence, she was convicted.

After reading about the double jeopardy clause, if I were Libby, I learned that I should present
proof to the proper authorities that my husband is still alive. The court would then nullify my
(Libby’s) original conviction and bring charges against my husband, instead of killing him.
