Following the success of his first album, he has created an assortment of musical surprises for middle-grade pianists. The pieces range
from dreamy to energetic but all provide stimulating and expressive moments at the piano. The third volume in this popular series from
Nicolai Podgornov includes the famous title theme ‘In Dreams’ from ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and the classic ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’.

wurde am 8. März 1950 in Leningrad
in einer Musikerfamilie geboren. Sei-
Seit 1991
machen will.
gehen. Ob ich mein Ziel erreicht habe, müssen Sie entscheiden.
Nicolai Podgornov
Nicolai Podgornov was born in Leningrad on 8th March 1950 into a musical family. For 10 years
he attended the Leningrad Music School for very gifted children where, in addition to general
subjects, he studied piano, singing, conducting and other music subjects. During his military service
he played in a wind band and afterwards performed with various pop and rock groups as well
as jazz orchestras as pianist, composer and conductor. At the same time his projects included
composing for theatre, film and TV (e.g. for Radio Liberty in New York). Since 1991 he has worked
and lived in Germany.
Learning should be enjoyable and that‘s true not only in the field of music and
instrumental lessons. Ideally you should not notice the pedagogic intentions as
you are carried along by interesting musical themes, the images in your mind, your
feelings and the joy of movement. Instrument-specific challenges are highlighted,
practised and finally mastered without you noticing - not necessarily because you
want to perfect your technique, but rather because you want to make music.
My compositional objective was to write something of substance and to create
memorable melodies even when composing the simplest of pieces and despite the
limited resources available. It is easy to slide into triviality and I have sought to avoid
that at all costs. Whether or not I have succeeded, you may be the judge.
Nicolai Podgornov
