Washington State Senate roses Senator Phil Fortunato no EE ce Olympia, WA 98504-0431 3st Legislative District Phil Fortunatodileg.wa gov March 5, 2019 Dear Governor Inslee, Congratulations on your decision to run for President, This is a big commitment for you and your family. However, the demands and costs of a presidential campaign should not be bore by Washington state taxpayers. Your safety, and the safety of your family, is of paramount importance to our state. Unfortunately, the Washington State Patrol security detail that protects you on your many out-of-state trips has been a severe drain on their budget. Ata time when taxpayers are facing the potential of a crippling new carbon tax, sizeable new gas tax increases, and billions in other taxes, we simply cannot ask the WSP to subsidize your presidential campaign activities. Please consider this letter a formal request for you to use campaign funds to reimburse the WSP for all past and future costs when troopers accompany you on any political activity related to your presidential campaign, 1 also request that you provide reimbursement to the State Patrol for your work with the Democrat Governors Association, which, as has been reported, helped bi presidential bid, In addition to your personal protection, there is also the matter of the increased costs of having the Lieutenant Governor step in to fill your role. When the Lieutenant Governor assumes your duties as Governor (in your absence), the taxpayers of the Washington have to increase his salary to compensate for his additional duties. | would ask that in the best interest of the state, you refuse to take your taxpayer-funded salary, or at the very least reduce your salary to cover the additional cost to the taxpayers, when you are out of state on your presidential campaign, | wish you well in your endeavor promoting your so-called “Green Agenda,” but please do not take the green out of taxpayers’ pockets to do it, Thank you for your attention to this request. Sincerely, Committees: Environment, Energy & Technology * Housing Stability & Affordability » Transportation GReqeled
