Diesitel User’s Guide

Introduction
Diesitel is a remote monitoring package which allows you to remotely monitor Cummins
Engines which are equipped with ECP or ECPG as electronic controllers on them. This
user’s guide covers the installation and operating instructions for Diesitel.

Description of Package Contents

1. CD for Remote Monitoring Software: The CD contains the installable package for
Diesitel Software, with required support files. The installation instructions for the
software package are printed on the CD inlay. To start using the package, you will
also require a license number, which is printed on the CD inlay. The same number
is also available on the CD in the file “license.txt” in the “Support Files” folder.
The “Support Files” folder on the CD also contains other text files like readme.txt
which may be required as support information for using Diesitel.

2. Set of Cables: These are communication cables required for interconnecting the
PC, modem, data-link adapter and the controller(s). These cables are available
separately, as standard part numbers, and may be ordered as spares if required.
(For e.g., in case of multi-dropping connection extra cable of part number
4071853 shall be required in addition to that provided in the kit. See multi-
dropping connection explained in fig.5 )

3. RS232 to RS485 Data-Link Adapter: This is a hardware module that converts


RS232 levels into 2- wire RS 485 levels as required by the controllers ECP and
ECPG. Receive and transmit activity is indicated by the respective LEDs on the
adapter. Similarly, “Power ON” indication is also provided on it.
4. USB to RS 232 converters and Modems: These parts are not a part of the
package. Converters and modems from any standard manufacturer may be used
however the following manufactures and part numbers have been tested and are
recommended. Cables associated with this equipment are hardware specific and
shall not be provided as part of the kit.

Hardware Setup

There are 4 possible configurations in which you can use Diesitel for Engine monitoring.
Please select a suitable configuration and make connections accordingly.

Note: The numbers used in the figures 1 to 4, are the same as represented in Column
“Serial No.” of table 1 .

Software Setup

1. Insert the Diesitel CD into the CD drive


2. Depending upon the Windows operating system on the PC, choose that particular
folder, for example If the PC where Diesitel is supposed to be installed has an
Window’s 98 operating system ,then choose the Win’98 folder & double click on
the Set.exe from that folder.
3. Click on Setup.exe. This will guide you through the installation process.
4. the software automatically generates an unique installation ID w.r.t the license
number.
5. Report your license number & the Installation ID to the CDS&S Electronics Cell,
Pune to get your user’s pass-code. Enter the Passcode given by CDS&S in the
Tab provided. This registers the use of Diesitel.
6. This passcode entry will be required only once initially.

Getting Started with Monitoring

1. Click on the “Diesitel configuration utility” icon to configure a site. Please enter
here, all information about ports, controllers, serial number etc. This information
will be used to construct you remote monitoring screen.
2. Click on the “Diesitel” icon to start using your remote monitoring software.
3. For further instructions and troubleshooting help, refer to your on-line help.
