for the research hypotheses and state the objectives and significance of the research. The
research methods are rationally designed, concise, logical and feasible. The research results
are comprehensive and complete, and the data is objective and rigorous. Students clearly
highlight the research focus and make full use of diagrams for illustration. Full relevant and
concise application of statistical analysis according to the nature of the research. The
discussions are original with innovative thinking, the contributions are clearly explained,
and the limitations of the research and the direction of further research are highlighted. The
conclusions are comprehensive. The language of the thesis is clear, concise and complete;
the usage of professional terminology is correct and accurate. There is no discrepancy in
the literature citations. The reference and the annotation are consistent. The attachments in
the thesis are in full compliance with the requirements.
Students demonstrate their in-depth knowledge of research through oral presentation. The
presentation is well-organized with comprehensive introduction of the research background.
They can concisely and accurately interpret the research methods and results. They have
very clear voice with very good volume and pace during the presentation. Direct eye
contact with high confidence. Full relevant responses to audience questions demonstrate
extensive knowledge of the topic. The delivery of the presentation including design, layout
and structure is consistent and logical.
Students can actively and frequently communicate with the supervisor. They are highly
enthusiastic and motivated in conceiving, designing and conducting the research project.

Substantial performance on all learning outcomes, OR high performance on some learning

B outcomes which compensates for less satisfactory performance on others, resulting in
overall substantial performance.

illustration. Adequate relevant application of statistical analysis according to the nature of
the research. The discussions are summarized in a rational and reasonable way. The
contributions are explained, and the limitations of the research and the direction of further
research are proposed. The conclusions are reasonable. The language of the thesis is clear
and complete. The usage of professional terminology is correct. There are some
discrepancies in the literature citations. The reference and the annotation are basically
consistent. The attachments in the thesis meet the requirements.
Students demonstrate their knowledge of research through oral presentation. The
presentation is well-organized with clear introduction of the research background. They can
accurately interpret the research methods and results. They have clear voice with good
volume and pace during the presentation. Eye contact with confidence. Relevant responses
to audience questions demonstrate adequate knowledge of the topic. The delivery of the
presentation including design, layout and structure is relatively consistent and logical.
Students can actively and often communicate with the supervisor. They are enthusiastic
and motivated in conceiving, designing and conducting the research project.

Demonstrates the ability to state and apply the principles or subject matter learnt in the
C course to most (but not all) familiar and standard situations in a manner that is not incorrect
but is somewhat fragmented.
Students demonstrate an ordinary ability to conduct a research related to Chinese medicine.
They are able to partly provide the background information of the research, partly state the
rationale for the research hypotheses, objectives and significance of the research. The
research methods are ordinarily designed, concise and feasible, but the logic is sometimes
unclear. The research findings are slightly inadequate and the data are less objective.
Students fail to highlight the research focus and rarely make use of diagrams for illustration.
Some relevant but incomplete application of statistical analysis according to the nature of
the research. The discussions and the conclusions are simple. No explanations of the
contributions. Part of the limitations of the research or the direction of further research has
not been proposed. The language of the dissertation is clear. Students are able to use the
professional terminology. The citations in the literature are fragmented. The reference and
the annotation are partly inconsistent. The attachments in the thesis partially meet the
requirements.
Students demonstrate some of the knowledge of research through oral presentation. The
presentation is structured with fair introduction of the research background. They can state
the research methods and results with limited interpretation. They have clear voice but with
unvaried volume and pace during the presentation. Some eye contact with little confidence.
Some relevant but incomplete responses to audience questions demonstrate some
knowledge of the topic. The delivery of the presentation including design, layout and
structure are basically consistent and logic.
Students are fairly active. They occasionally communicate with the supervisor. They show
little enthusiasm and motivation in conceiving, designing and conducting the research
project.

Demonstrates the ability to state and sometimes apply the principles or subject matter learnt
D in the course to some simple and familiar situations in a manner that is broadly correct in its
essentials and has the ability to state the knowledge or application in simple terms.

Students demonstrate a fair ability to conduct a research related to Chinese medicine. They
barely provide background information of the research and barely state the rationale for the
research hypotheses, objectives and significance of the research. The design and logic of the
research methods is quite unclear. The research findings are inadequate and the data are not
objective. Students fail to highlight the research focus and rarely make use of diagrams for
illustration. Inadequate application of statistical analysis according to the nature of the
research. The discussions and the conclusions are simple. No explanations of the
contributions. Part of the limitations of the research or the direction of further research has

not been proposed. The language of the thesis is basically understandable. Limited usage of
the professional terminology. The citations in the literature are fragmented. The reference
and the annotation are partly inconsistent. The attachments in the thesis partially meet the
requirements.

Students barely demonstrate their knowledge of the research through oral presentation. The
introduction of the research background is incomprehensive and partly vague. The research
methods and results can be stated but with no further interpretation. They have fair voice
with unvaried or erratic volume and pace during the presentation. Minimal eye contact with
very little confidence. Some incomplete and irrelevant responses to audience questions
demonstrate limited knowledge of the topic. The delivery of the presentation including
design, layout and structure are inconsistent and not quite understandable.

Students are inactive and seldom communicate with the supervisor. They show very little
enthusiasm and motivation in conceiving, designing and conducting the research project.

Unsatisfactory performance on a number of learning outcomes, OR failure to meet specified

F assessment requirement.

Students fail to demonstrate the ability to conduct a research related to Chinese medicine.
They do not understand the research. They are unable to provide background information of
the research and do not state the rationale for the research hypotheses, objectives and
significance of the research. The design and logic of the research methods are unclear. The
research findings are incomplete and the data is not objective. Students fail to highlight the
research focus and unable to make use of diagrams for illustration. Fail to apply the
statistical analysis according to the nature of the research. Very limited explanations in the
discussions and conclusions. The contributions, limitations of the research or the direction
of further research have not been proposed. The language of the thesis is not
understandable. Students are unable to use the professional terminology. The citations in
the literature are fragmented. The reference and the annotation are inconsistent. The
attachments in the thesis do not meet the requirements.

Students are unable to demonstrate their knowledge of the research through oral
presentation with weak logic. The introduction of the research background is
incomprehensive and vague. The research methods and results provided do not support the
research in any way. They have unclear voice with unvaried or erratic volume and pace
during the presentation. No eye contact and lack of confidence. Failure to response to
audience questions with vague and non-specific feedback demonstrates extremely limited
knowledge of the topic. The delivery of the presentation including design, layout and
structure are inconsistent and not understandable.

Students are inactive and never communicate with the supervisor. They show no
enthusiasm and motivation in conceiving, designing and conducting the research project.
