Present Perfect Continuous Tense

1. Actions or events started in the past and still in progress.

STRUCTURE:

Regular sentences: Subj + to be (has/have) +been+ 1st form of verb +ing+ Object

Question sentence: to be (has/have) + Subj +been+ 1st form of verb +ing + Object

Actions or events started in the past and are continue.

 I have been studying since morning.


 I have been doing exercises since 11Pm.
 He has been driving for 5 hours.

Common Mistakes

 I have waited for half an hour. This is wrong as you are still waiting so correct sentence
would be (I have been waiting for half an hour)
 If a person you are waiting arrived means your waiting time finished!!! Than it will
become present perfect tense such as (I have waited you half an hour).

 He has slept since 9 o clock. This is also wrong as he is still sleeping at the time of
speaking. So correct sentence would be (He has been sleeping since 9 o clock)

 It has been snowing twice this week. This is also wrong as it was snowing than
stopped than snowing than stop. Means at the time of speaking there is no snowing.
So correct sentence is (It has snowed twice this week).

 She has been writing many books. As she has already written many books in the past
so correct sentence would be (She has written many books)
